So my 780Ti has died and I am looking for a replacement. I have a 34" Ultra wide LG monitor, so I need a card that can handle games at 1440p, ultra settings etc.

Would a 1070 Strix be the best choice, or could I get away with a 1060 Strix?

Depends on Budget

The 1070 will yield higher FPS with higher settings

The GTX 1060 does a pretty good job at 3440 x 1440p

But I have feeling you will be wanting more.

I'd say at least a 1070, I run 1440 ultrawide with a Fury which is pretty close to the 1060's performance and while it manages I would prefer less tweaking and a few more frames in quite a few titles so if I was buying now I'd want at least a 1070, A 1080 would be even better but they're not cheap as you know.

Most 1070s are within ~10% of each other counting OC (at MOST), and generally at the same level of noise/cooling. I'd look at warranty/CS first. Shout-outs to EVGA & Zotac, as is tradition.
