Hi All
I have a Gigabyte X58 UD5 motherboard running an i7 processor overclocked to 4ghz and running a Gainward GTX 295 graphics card .
What i would like to know is what graphics card would be best to get from the new line of cards that would offer better performance than my 295 ?

I was looking at the ATI HD 6950 ...seem fairly cheap compared to the latest nvidia cards .
Dont want to spend more than £250 on a new card ...thats if its worth upgrading ...would like to run BF3 on my system and my 295 seems to be a slight bit stuttery .....would the new directx 11 cards be better ?
Also will the latest cards be ok in my 2 and half year old motherboard ?
Any help most appreciated
Karl

AMD release their 7000 series in December afaik, so you may wish to hang fire until you've seen those. Otherwise, if I were to buy right now I'd go for a gtx570, or a 560ti - 2gb preferably, if the 570 was out of budget.

right i may aswell wait then if new cards are coming :) .... the 570 seems a bit out of my price range at moment ..im still in 2 minds weather to upgrade or not as i dont use my pc like i used to ...always on console ...but BF3 does look good on pc ...i could stretch to £300 max but is it worth it just to play a game on the pc that already have on xbox..lol shame to see my pc sitting there not being used !!!!

It's only my personal outlook, but in this sort of instance I'd rather buy a price for performance card like an AMD gpu, given that when I'm running around a mp map I don't really care for anti aliasing etc. Nvidia are better when it comes to maintaining higher frame rates when AA is applied, but in this case bearing in mind it's only for one game, and that the new series is almost upon us, I'd simply hang on for a bit. :)

yes will take your advise and wait for a while ...not in any rush anyway so can have a good look around .
Trying to find a site where they show graphs of performance etc of cards but cannot find a good one ....do you know of any good sites ?
Cheers

i think the 295 is about equal to the 6950 so i would be looking for at least a 6970 or a 570/580

If you do buy before the 7000 series release then just overclock a 6950 to make up the 3 or 4% difference, there's very, very little between them.

ok cheers for advise .....i read you can flash a 6950 to a 6970 ....something worth looking into .
on the sites you said ...i compared the 295 against a 6950 ...and the 295 was better they said ...theoretically !! surely thats not right ? plus would a direct x 11 card be better than a direct x 10 card ?

The 6950 is better with regard to minimums and average frame rates than the gtx295.

Re : flashing, there aren't many models that can reliably accomplish this now, though the Sapphire Toxic edition comes kind of pre-flashed, so all you need to do is flip a switch. However, success is not guaranteed though it does seem likely.

I think it's something like 95% flashing success
