Hi all,

Current system is getting long in the tooth was a great deal from OC 3 years ago now.

Q6600 overclocked, 650W, 2*2GB 800 DDR2, Abit IP35 pro XE p35 (SOCKET 775) MOBO AND 9800gt 512 CARD.

Im not a high res junky (would love to be but can't afford it) so just want to be able to play new games on average settings, mainly adventure like Witcher2 with the odd FPS, looking forward to the new starwars sinegle player as don't really do MMO.

Anyway My card is pretty much minimum spec for Witcher 2 but it plays OK for my standards. Seeing it listed as minimum Spec for a game was a lightbulb moment (the light went out not on!)

The question is do I spend £100 or so on a GTX 460 (about all I could afford) and revitalise my rig a little or do I wait and think about a new rig in a year or so and save the money.

I guess my main issue is will my system still play the new upcoming games of next year like starwars, maybe Batman, on settings that won't cause dealy and affect game play or will it really start to struggle?

If it will scrape through another year or so I would probably rather save the money and put it towards a new rig in a year or so, if cars don't demolish any and all finances this coming year like this year!!!

The GTX460 is a great option, but I would recommend the 6850 as it is a little faster, does cost about an extra £20, but uses only one 6 pin adapter unlike the 460's required 2 and the 460 is getting a little old now.

Im in the same boat kind of...

My phone is due an upgrade in Feb and I'm thinking of trading in the old one for moola at one of these trade in places, to help fund a new long term suiting card.

I like my gtx 460, just regret not holding out saving a bit more and getting the 1gb version that would last me a bit longer. Never tried ATI but might venture there as my card is crossfire enabled not Sli

The good thing about ATI is that they bring out monthly drivers, so after a period of lets say a year the card will be 20% faster than it was when you first bought it.

And how in hell is your card Crossfire enabled and not SLI????

Crossfire is when two or more ATI CARDS are linked together to run simultaneously next to each other. The same applies for NVIDIA CARDS but Nvidia call it SLI!!!

Got it wrong there dude!

The 6850 is the best budget card out atm.
