Having flicked through the various threads about the next version of cards coming from Nvidia it looks like nobody has a clue how long until they will come (which is fair enough) so with that in mind I'm looking fo replace my 10 year old card.

I currently have an absolute beast of a card.... https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/EAH5770_CUCore2DI1GD5/ :p

It's fine for most things but obviously it's awful for playing games at a decent FPS, resolution or quality and I'd like to get back to playing PC games. I currently have 2x 1080p screens and doubt I'll be changing to a higher res for quite some time.

As I'm sure is the case with most people, I want to spend as little as possible but I do want to have some longevity in the card I get (if this one survived 10 years of on/off gaming...) so know I can't just spend £20.

I have seen in some other similar threads cards such as the Powercolor 580 8GB and the GTX 1060 6GB.

I'm wondering if there are other cards that are worth considering though, especially if I can get something sub £200 which is capable of running PUBG and Assetto Corsa at 60+ fps at 1080p with med to high quality settings. If there are cheaper options that can tide over for a while then I'd prefer that, but if need be I guess I can just get one of the above (probably the 580).
I have no brand loyalty, over the years when I used to game I'd just get the best value for money card, NVidia or (at the time ATI) so it's more about the capabilities for the money really than the logo for me.

Second hand your 290/x or GTX 970 would be about your cut off demands regarding a cheap upgrade.

For new I would say a 1060 would be nice enough. The 11 series looks like only high end this year so theres no point in waiting for the lower end for the time being. Sub £200 though is more like a 1050Ti although you could pick up a 1060 in the MM for a good price.

For peace of mind I think I would rather buy new but if there were substantial savings then second hand does make sense. Looking at comparisons, the 580 I linked above is a year newer but not quite as good as the 1060 linked but then it's also slightly less £ (as good as makes no difference really).

I have just seen an RX580 8GB in the MM for £220ish but then it doesn't seem to be any/much better than the 1060 I linked which would have warranty (albeit costing £50 more).

That's what I'm using to compare the cards, don't know if it's actually a good website or not but it has a good database listing of cards and does comparisons easily, unlike others.

One thing I don't miss about PC gaming is doing all the research to find out what is and isn't a good deal.

Edit: Oh and if anyone needs PC specs they are...

i7 920 D0 at 2.66 GHz (keep meaning to put it back to 3-3.5 on air but keep forgetting).
20 GB ram (2x dual channel...I think)
Enermax 625W PSU
250 GB 850 EVO (OS)
500 GB 860 EVO (Data/software)
2x Dell P2210 at 1920x1080 each

While you are at it, upgrading that is, you should spend £20 or so on a Xeon X5650 CPU, 6 cores 12 threads, and most will hit 4.0GHz+ really nice upgrade for silly money.

I'd look at getting the best warrantied, cheapest 1060 6GB or RX 580 you can find if you are buying new, maybe it will last you as long as the 5770. :)

Haha well it may only be £20 but I can't say I've run into any real issues with the i7 even if it is a first gen one. Playing games, video editing etc. and it doesn't skip a beat and never seems to go much over 50% load. Plus the faff of cleaning off thermal paste and reapplying it isn't something I can be bothered to do (I have an aftermarket cooler). :p

I don't mind not running games at max settings which is one of the reasons I'd managed to last for a good few years with the 5770 and why I'm still able to play games on it too, so to be fair any new card would be a big upgrade and should last a good while.

The 1060 does have a higher max res output which does help with future proofing too I suppose as at some stage I would like a 4k/ultrawide display or two. I am a bit loathed to spend ~£250 on a graphics card that's two years old though out of principle, imo that car should be more like £150 but the whole mining thing has thrown prices out sadly.
