Cardiff sell out?

If they think a rebrand is what's needed to make the club into a financial success then it has to be done. Cardiff were losing like £1m a month or something silly and have tons of debt as well.

From blue to red is a bit unusual but I suppose if there is no local rival in red then it isn't as big a deal as it otherwise might be. If you look at kits in general they have changed quite a bit down the years (different socks/shorts, labelling/branding, sometimes even colours aren't what they were many years ago - note the green&gold campaign at MU, or the burgandy kit worn by Arsenal)

Wonder if the crowd will ironically sing COYB?

I suspect this is the tip of the iceberg, my worry is what is to come! They have done this part with all the subtlety of a bulldozer.

I feel for Cardiff fans, the majority I have spoken to do not like this one bit. It may even be more damaging to the less hardcore fanbase who lose identity with the club they were seeing 3 or 4 home games a season at and just don't got at all.

They are promising £100m investment (not limited to just on the pitch)
but as I know and many other clubs do too, that can get you nothing in this league but a bunch of unhappy overpaid players and a position mid-table.

I'll leave it to the actual fans of Cardiff to decide but I don't like it one bit on their behalf.

Already in financial meltdown like every other club in the world.

104 years of history, dead.

It's this or be Portsmouth.

Cardiff are the Everton of the Champ, always trying but never can quite make that extra step needed. The chairman cannot give more money so the club will be perennially stuck where it is. The only options are to go out all guns blazing, like pomp, and spend loans that probably will cripple the club, or drum up the football dream investment in facilities and the squad.

Unfortunately the only way to market a Welsh team to people who vaguely know where Wales is requires them to change the kit to red. It's not the best situation but to continue the team in a forward manor and create meaningful investment in the club it has to be done.

It's not just a change of colour though, it's the change of nickname etc they weren't even going to put a Bluebird on the badge, so they have squashed one on now. The crazy thing is the amount of Cardiff fans that are all for selling their identity just to get to the premiership. It'll be like a different club.

A new shirt and nickname doesn't mean a new club. Didn't affect that team that played in the Sports Direct Arena did it

Honestly, I just want them to fail now. Never thought I'd say that but how people have been so accepting is beyond me. I'm sure there'll be fans in Malaysia in no time.

Eff franchise football, its sickening.

So what identity do they have left? They are looking into changing their stadium to red. How is it similar to Newcastle? They just changed their stadium name, there was enough outrage about that aswell.

I used to be a Cardiff fan, still follow them, but mainly Arsenal now. I think the change could be good, its not gona be the 1st time they have played in red in recent years, nor with a changed badge. A national symbol, national colours, they need something to pull in future generations and the arm chair welsh football fan now there not the biggest Welsh team any more.

Until they Sign Nicholas Chan they havnt sold out.

If they operated at a realistic level they wouldn't be needing to find new investment.

It's a fine line to straddle though, it's very hard maintain a place in even the championship without spending a little money.

Cardiff have challenged the playoffs for a couple of seasons now and a bit of investment could go a long way. Not getting anything could end up more like Leeds (even though they are looking for investment too)
