Can anyone recommend a PCIe card which will output to a TV via YpbPr. Theres a suprising lack of info on the web, all I've managed to gather is that not all cards do it and some ATI cards support it but I can't get a clear Idea as to which.

The reason I ask is I bought a 42' rear projection TV from a mate (for a quid!) and I can currently output to it using s video from a nvidia 7500 le but the quality it rubbish. The TV has a componant (Ypbpr) input but the 7500 doesn't support it. I've got a VGA to ypbpr cable but it just doesn't work.

Cheers

The TV is quite old and only has inputs for S Video, Scart and Componant (YpbPr), no HDMI unfortunately. It will never get used for gaming or anything, only for streaming fairly low quality video to so perhaps there are some older (cheaper) cards out there?

Mine have previously been supplied with an adaptor that plugs into the s-video - looking socket on the back of the card. These were all ATI's.

Thanks for the link queamin. I'm intreagued that your 8800 does it. My 7500 LE has a round middle socket which I'm using to connect it to the TV through S Video, but I did notice it has consdierably more holes than the S video has pins. Maybe I just need the correct cable.

I would have thought the cable would have come with the card if it could use component, but someone might tell you who has the same card as different brands get different extras and some might include a cable where other don't.

My x800 had a lead for s-video but not component may be they weren't standard until hdtv's came out.

I have an old Nvidia mainboard based on the 6150 that does YpbPr, and have had a 6600 7600GT, 7800, 8800's etc that all came with a cable for it.

You probably need the break out cable as you say since the small round multipin plug allows a few video options usually including YpbPr.

The 7500 LE came with an Acer system I bought a good few years ago. It may have come with the cable (or adapter) but It will have long since been tidied somewhere by my better half. Its a strange card as it comes with Nvidia drivers and CCC installed as standard...

I'll see if I can find a breakout cable cheap somewhere and try it before I splash out on a new card.

OK, I've found a 7 pin S Video type of cable to Ypbpr which looks like it will do the job. There is also a 9 pin version of the same thing. Do you reckon there will be any difference (other than price) between them?

I got a 7pin s-video type plug to red, green, blue phono type socket adapter lead in front of me.You are welcome to it if you want
Mail me if interested

All cards I have bought in the last few years have all had component adapters in the box, so I think pretty much any modern card can do it.

Andarial, your a legend!. Many thanks for the cable. I've got it hooked up and it is displaying a much clearer picture through the component, however its in black and white! I've fiddled around with the control panel settings, changing the TV settings from s video to component, trying different settings (480p, 480i, SDTV, EDTV, etc) to no avail. Best i can get is some green colours coming through on a 480 SDTV setting. Any ideas?

Maybe a silly question ...
But are you sure it's not set for NTSC rather than pal on the TV ?

As that can give you a BW or odd colour..

Can you set the tv to auto or ntsc?
sometimes on the gfx card there is a jumper to enable either pal or ntsc, tried changeing tat?
Which make/model of tv?maybe it is not pal or ntsc compatible
or maybe your sftware is not set to output correctly.what are you using to display?
Glad you got the cable ok mate

I suppose the cable may not be compatible with your card but i think that is unlikely
