Hi guys,

My company (Lloyds Banking Group) are making more mass redundancies next year and I'm going to be out of a job. The contract they have with Equitable Life is being transferred to an Indian firm wef March 2011. It's good that I get a lot of notice but I'd like to use that time to study for a different career.

I've been working in Customer Service and have been dealing with pensions complaints for the best part of the last 10 years; did a bit of credit control before that. I'd thought I could perhaps do a course such as Comptia A+ and try and get a job on an IT helpdesk to "get a foot in the door". Any advice you guys could give me would be much appreciated.

Cheers. Wink

Courses are unlikely to get you a foot in the door but they will help with moving up the career ladder once you are in some companies and organisations (but not all).

Start applying now unless you're likely to get a lot in redundancy pay as there's few helpdesk jobs that aren't over applied for. Also I'll be honest helpdesk is a thankless job in most organisations so be prepared to handle some awful customers.

Stick with it though, I love working in I.T.

Might want to check this out too:
