Say you were going to buy a one bedroom flat would you rather buy one with carpets in the lounge/bedroom or wooden flooring, some combination of say wooden flooring in lounge/carpet in bedroom)?

(Just a note/clarification re: this question - it isn't what flooring you'd lay once you've moved in but what flooring you'd prefer to see when buying - i.e. if you're very likely to want to lay your own flooring regardless then perhaps you'd not care either way or perhaps you'd prefer a specific flooring for whatever reason)

Wooden Flooring
Carpets
Wood in lounge/carpet in bedroom
no preference

But would you be looking to relay anyway or would you accept a reasonable carpet or wooden floor if fairly neutral when buying a new place and if so which?

I'd rather have carpet in a bedroom I can be flexible over a lounge but kitchen and bathroom definitely no carpets.

I'd prefer good quality wood everywhere, personally. There's not much worse than the cheap laminate flooring you often get.

True, I find the lighter looking wood seem to look cheap no matter what, might just be my preference but I like the look of darker looking wood.

If there is some kind of entrance porch/hallway then I'm fine with wood or carpet in the living area. If the door opens directly into the living area (as in my house) then wood/laminate all the way - I have carpet and it's very hard to keep clean when you walk directly onto it with shoes on.

Wood in entrances, hallways, kitchen and bathroom if not tiled.

The rest wouldn't bother me either way, though I had carpet in lounge and bedroom in my old flat. Having warm feet is nice, as is sitting on a nice carpeted floor to watch TV now and then :)

Look carefully into what flooring you're actually allowed in the flat. Quite a few leasehold tenancy agreements state very clearly that wooden flooring is not permitted due to noise issues. Vinyl is allowed most of the time.

From a personal perspective, I would always choose wood in the living areas and carpets in bedrooms.

We have the carpet/wood(laminate) combo. 2 bedrooms with carpet (needs replacing badly), lounge, hallway and kitchen has laminate and bathroom has karndean vinyl flooring

My personal preference is for carpet in the bedrooms and lounge with an easy to maintain surface, whether that be wood or LVT etc in the higher traffic/messy areas.
