i need to replace my living room carpet due to an accident fish tank related the stuff what was down cost about £10 per square meter in 2011. 8mm under lay i have needs to come up too.

I'm pricing carpets up on-line of the same price

£154.36 for the carpet

£171.44 for 10 mm under lay.

wtf

the 6mm stuff is £75

rip off prices!!!

this is carpetright btw

I'm looking on ebay

8mm stuff 11 meters x 1.37 meters

£36.50

maths isn't my strong point would that be enough to do a 12ft x 12.5 foot room ?

12ft x 12.5ft is 14sqm. You will only need 1 roll as they normally cover 15sqm.
Avoid Carpetright, go online as it'll be cheaper

cheers guys I'll get that cloud 9 stuff £47 for a 15m2 roll, i can't believe the mark up carpetright are making on underlay they are adding £124 is that 250% extra ?

Yeh underlay can be more expensive than the carpet, you can get cheap foam stuff which gets ok reviews. Can also go laminate or look for an end.

Purchase and lay the underlay yourself. I recently had to redo a floor in my conservatory and switch from carpet tiles to proper carpet picked up a decent quality 10mm underlay for about 40 quid took about 45 mins to lay it all. Used some spray adhesive to keep it in place saved us a fortunes what with laying that and the carpet myself and getting a bargain on an offcut of carpet

Are you fitting it yourself?

i could tackle the underlay but the carpet no chance i tried once it was a disaster same with lino never again :p been thinking about laminate in the lounge and the hallway i could do the lounge myself helped to do my brothers living room a few years ago, wasn't too bad basic square room like mine. he complained it made his flat feel cold though ?

think i would have too get someone in for the hall it's complicated 4 door ways coming off it.

i was quoted £250 fitting fee for the hall and living room for laminate, another place quoted £60 for fitting the one carpet.

I've got tredaire green 10.3mm fitted, same stuff that john lewis use on their most expensive carpets, its very nice indeed, and has excellent sound deadening properties

https://www.tradepriced.co.uk/tredaire_colours_green_carpet_underlay.html

this is where I got mine, you can do comparisons of all the different properties of each underlay

These guys are who I have used a number of times. Superb.

Fit the grippers and underlay yourself, its very easy and paying labour for someone else to do it is daft. If not sure, youtube/google for tips but its easy.
Carpet is harder. Pay a pro to get the stretch right!

Yup, it will do that.
If you want warm, fit Cloud 9 Cumulus (11mm) underlay, take care to tape all the joins and get a good fit. Then a good carpet ontop.
We have a suspended floor (timber over 1ft under floor cavity) and have this with a deep pile carpet, lovely and warm. Nightmare with the vacuum for the first few weeks due to the deep pile, it was hard to push in certain directions.

When I worked in the trade it was approx £4 sqm for carpet and £10 sqm for laminate. This was 3 years ago and it can depend on location.

I'd suggest buying the Cloud9 underlay online, buying the carpet (I have associated weavers harvest heathers throughout my house), door bars and grippers online then find someone local to fit it for £3'ish per sqm (more for the stairs).

Avoid the chain carpet places like the plague.

Hi all, bit of a thread revival.

I'm after carpet for 3 large ish bedrooms, landing and stairs (total 85 ish sqm) and want the BEST underlay (I don't care about price to a degree) for sound deadening primarily - I have got a quote from a local firm which I'm happy with (just shy of £3.5k)

Has anyone heard of "Hypertread HD underlay"
Which I believe is this stuff

Any comparisons? How would this compare to cloud 9?

Should I look at 11mm /similar? I have read the thicker the underlay the more it can soften the carpet and make it last less long?

If you want the best then I would recommend Axfelt underlay. It is now made by Ulster carpets and is great. Around 10/11 pounds a square meter.
