Hi folks,

Approaching my first ever carpet purchase in over a decade. How do we do it now? I have no idea what the best quality for buck is. It is a kids bedroom but I've configured each room so they can be swapped around; keen to not buy cheap but don't want to be ripped.

Intent is to build in the wardrobes so the depth from the door is ~3.35M exact. Length is 3.86M.

The boards up here aren't T&G so let draught through, given the front of the house has a lathe and plaster tile wall in between the front massive windows. Is it worth silver taping it all up to close the draught gaps?

I've taken up the gripper as well, so will need underlay+gripper.

Thanks

Posh carpet brand, the original Axminster, one of their cheapest, £58 per sqm, wool rich, i.e. mix with manmade fibres:

Compare carpetright 100% polypropylene, £22.99 per sqm:

Wool feels nicer, but I wouldn't buy a 100% wool carpet, because the moths can eat it, so a wool-mix is probably the best idea.

Best bit of advice is don't skimp on the underlay. It's critical. Get the best you can afford. Kids bedroom so might want to go with something that easy to clean and remove stains from (food/drink/ink) . Ask the carpet retailer for recommendations.

Cheers, had forgotten Axminster are the top drawer. I've just done research on underlay and think I'll go for Cloud9 Cumulus for obvious reasons.

I did think a blend. However £58 may be pushing it!

We went with carpet tiles from B&Q. No underlay just carpet-taped straight onto the previous laminate floor. We used a mix of colours to create a pattern, they're easy to fit yourself, the short-medium pile feels firm underfoot and doesn't lose e.g. small lego pieces.

Arguably on the 'cheap' side though but you can create some striking patterns if so minded to further cut up and re-arrange them.
