Carroll and England

 He's been decent for Sunderland, far better than Gyan so far.

Yeah, as Jakeke, Gyan's barely played and might have 4 goals already, Welbeck is utter rubbish.

Welbeck 633 minutes, 1 assist total. Gyan, 375 minutes, 4 goals, his first start was against Stoke, in two starts, he's scored 3 goals.

I'll give you one thing though, I think Welbeck commited the single most ridiculous dive this season, so he's got that going for him, asides from that.......

Weak passer, poor vision, not a lot of pass, poor finishing, no strength, I very much doubt he'll be playing in the premiership in the next couple years, so far I've seen little to suggest he'll settle in the Championship, he might end up lower than that. I think Chadwick showed more ability than Welbeck did.

blind united fan!

Welbeck has done nothing to prove his place, Carroll is having an OK start to the season so why not?

Welbeck has had more chances than Gyan, and Gyan is still doing better.

Also, Carroll should get called up if he carries on as he is IMO. If Terry and Rooney (among many others) can keep their place with their off-field stuff, then it shouldn't affect anyone else either.

For those unaware of his antics...

Carroll has been involved in many off-the-pitch incidents in his career. On 14 September 2008, Carroll was arrested by police in Newcastle responding to a report that a woman had been assaulted, and later accepted a police caution for assault. On 7 December 2009, he was arrested in the aftermath of a nightclub fight, again in Newcastle, accused of smashing glass in a man's face. He was charged with assault and is currently on bail awaiting a Crown Court trial. He was also arrested after an incident on the training ground which allegedly left teammate Steven Taylor with a broken jaw. Carroll reportedly suffered a broken hand in the incident, and he was shortly photographed in a pop concert with bandages to both hands. Manager Chris Hughton and club representatives declined to comment any further on the incident. On 18 October 2010, Carroll was charged with assaulting a former girlfriend. Claiming self-defence, and having given a local hotel as his address, Carroll was granted bail on the condition that he resides with Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan until the case resumes in January. Two days following his bail, Carroll's car was set on fire whilst parked on Nolan's driveway, with the club captain's garage door also being daubed with obscenities.

Whilst on international duty, Carroll, Scott Sinclair and Ryan Bertrand were sent home from the England U-19s squad after breaking a curfew on 14 October 2007 during preparation for a match against Romania U-19s. Carroll was also involved in a training ground fight with teammate Charles N'Zogbia over a late tackle from the Frenchman, but then-Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear decided not to punish the two.

The guy sounds like an A-Grade douche.

You can see why he gets on with Joey Barton =/

He is not better than Rooney, Crouch, Defoe or Bent so he would not be picke din my initial list.

He would probably make into my backup list though. Would give him a try in a friendly.

He is young and has let the trappings of his stardom go to his head, hopefully living with Nolan will help him somewhat.

Agreed. There has to be line somewhere and I think he's found that line. There's no way he should play for England.

His off the field antics shouldn't matter because he's a terrible player!

Really? Just really?

If you think of all the other FIT England strikers atm this guy comes top of my list. His displays this season has without a doubt gave him an excellent chance to not only get into the England squad for the upcoming international but perhaps start. This is coming from a Sunderland supporter too.

He should be called up. End of.

If he is bad for England, then we can talk. If he plays really well, then we all feel a little silly saying he isnt good enough.

Yes he is a bit of a moron, but who isnt in football? Half the England squad are probably the worst role models in the country. Terry (EX CAPTAIN!), Cole, Gerrard (CAPTAIN!) and many more.

Even Capello has had his controversy whilst managing Real Madrid. When they were playing Real Zaragoza i think it was in 2007, cappello stuck his middle finger up twice at the away fans whilst real were winning...not exactly a gentleman....

we should forget trying to play continental football.

why not just go to a shawcross style of game? we have enough thugs lingering around in the premiership to make it work out just fine. hell even Terry and Gerard would get into the team. just bring in the thugs, play route 1 long ball - Caroll and Davies up front.

its what we as a nation are best at. we have just seen possibly our most technically advanced squad of english players get thrown to the wall by other technical teams. i say lump it and go thug style.

That would be hilarious to watch. First act of the game as the teams and walking along the line shaking hands, Carol steps in and nuts one of them, and Shawcross bounds in with a haymaker to the ref.

give the fans what they want to see.

lets go to these tournaments proud of what we do, not attempt to copy another country and fail miserably. if we went out of a tournament but at least gave it some thug loving and tried and left a few opponents trampled into the floor, then id take that over some of our more recent efforts.
