Hey,

I have a hard tail Mountain bike, looking for the best solution for a 3 day 'trip'.

My backpack can carry most stuff but presumably I need to look at a rear rack to strap tent, typical 3 man dome tent in a cylindrical bag, sleeping bag and possibly a sleeping mat.

I've seen some but just wondering about compatability with a hard tail /disk brakes.

Any suggestions, it's only for very occasional use so don't care about looks, maybe even get a second hand rack but I don't really know what to look for, I've seen some decent looking ones around the £30 mark such as topeak ones but don't really want to spend that much.

What type of riding? Road or off road?
Panniers are good for smooth road riding but they are a bit weak for carrying heavy loads over rough ground. Most people go for a bar harness, frame bag and large saddle bag, like this:

Quite expensive stuff though, easily £150-200 for the 3 bags.
I'm planning on making my own bags for my trip. The bar harness is quite easy, just need a normal drybag and some staps to hold it in place (and some kind of spacer to hold it away from the head tube a little to give room for the cables)

Whatever you do, dont carry it on your back! It WILL hurt.
I'll take a very small 5litre backpack for phone, map, jacket and some food - just little things that you need quick access to.

Thanks for the suggestions, that Edinburg one looks good value.

It will need to be reasonably strong as the riding will be bridleway, dirt track etc..
