My colleague laughs at me because I like paying for things using cash for example when buying rounds in the pub.

Am I a dinosaur and stop going to the cashpoint and use my plastic only? What do cashless people do when they only want to buy a packet of crisp at the corner shop?

Packet of crisps, still use a card...

If I ever cared to buy just a packet of crisps that is, which is never. Minimum buy is likely to be a drink and a sandwich of some kind.

tap my phone or card on the machine - there are enough boots, Tesco express stores etc.. that I don't often go into an independent corner shop these days

I do carry some cash around but don't use it often, it isn't very efficient to do so.

I guess 10 years ago I'd have considered it bad etiquette to use a card in at a bar when people are waiting as cash was often more efficient back then that waiting for the barman to get the sole card machine, type in the pin, wait for it to connect etc.. These days it is the other way around - the person tapping their phone on the machine and walking away is more efficient than the person who needs to get their wallet out, wait for change, put change away etc...

I like cash but I'm trying to get out of the habit of using it so much - it invariably means I draw out more than I need and end up spending more than I intended. :(

If you are disciplined then cash can be good for a night out IMO as you can go out with a set amount and that's it. No spunking a fortune while you're hammered on your card or going out to get more money from the cash machine.

Forty something here and I'm fully paid up to a cashless existence. Rarely use cash for anything and always do contactless at the bars/boozer. Don't tell anyone but a I got a cheeky twenty hidden in the slot for emergencies.

pay by contactless.

tbh there's very few shops round here even have a limit for paying by card (some used to be 5 minimum)

i do lift out cash, but pretty much only for the barber or for airsofting, neither of which take card.

It's funny how you still get old people behind you at the supermarket humming are haring when they see you pull contactless card out to pay. Yet the transaction goes a lot quicker then it does for them to open their purse and count their cash out. :D
