Hello,

Has anyone ever tried to take a desktop PC anywhere on a train with any degree of success? I don't really want to buy anything special to carry it in, think I'd be able to get it into a suitcase without killing it or myself?

I use a PC holst when I'm taking PCs to and from clients. It just clamps round with a handle on top. I've not tried it on the train.. Should be interesting :)

It'll fit, I suppose, and the luggage area on trains will certainly take the suitcase. Also, I think trains will bump and jostle less than a car or bus would. Never done it, just hypothesising.

Just don't try and put it in the overhead space ;)

stick it in a suit case and pad it with colts towels etc, and be gentle when carrying and try to lay it so the mother board is on the ground side. and not hanging with the cpu cooler, gfx etc pulling on it.

Well I actually only need to carry part of the system - just the case, PSU, disk drives and graphics card (which of course I will have to pack seperately!). Oh, and of course the monitor (a fairly small LCD). I think it should just about be doable....

Good point, I wouldn't have put it past myself to try it before realising it was a very bad idea! I better make sure I find a time when there's plenty of space on the train.

Presumably you're just talking about the case with its internals and not the whole kit (keyboard monitor etc).

Ideally I'd use the box the case came in if its not too big.doesn't draw attention to the fact its a PC and has the internal packaging intact. Otherwise the suitcase and towel idea is a good one - some bubble wrap would be good if you have it too.

I'd also sit in a seat that meant you could keep an eye on it if its in the luggage rack.

look for one of these

I don't have the box the case came in. I really would like to be able to take the case, monitor and keyboard in one journey if at all possible, but I think it might end up breaking my back, I seem to remember the case is relatively heavy as they go. The motherboard (and CPU cooler) and graphics card cooler won't be in the case which makes it a bit lighter. Will have to see...

Anyone know where I can get one of those snazzy carry things? To be honest if it's more than about £10 (and I'm fairly sure it will be) then I'm not sure I can be bothered.

Got my akasa62 and my dell 20 inch dell into a suitcase, weighed a ****** ton, Birmingham was a nightmare!

I should have got a £20 lift trolley from Argos.
