Hi

I have picked up a couple of decent polarizing filters for my two lenses. How do you carry your filters in your case? I had a look on Amazon and although I can find filter cases, they still seem to leave them a bit exposed (pulling them in and out). Or are the filter surfaces sturdier than I think?

I keep my circular filters in the hard plastic cases they came in & my square filter in a soft plastic sleeve it that it came in. The square one is a plastic filter which could maybe get scratched if I wasn't careful, the others I think are glass and they haven't really struck me as overly fragile although I'm sure if I dropped them, they'd break.

Let us know how you get one.

I've started to build up a number of circular filters and have decided it would be easier to carry them in some sort of sleeve, as it would save a bit of weight and bulk in my bag.

Polarisers? The safest place... On the end of the lens they were bought for. Polarisers are useful in a massive number of situations and its easier to just unscrew it when needed than get one out on the off chance it may be useful. When I don't need it I normally just unscrew the filter, leaving the lens cap in place, and put it in my pocket.

Saves the filter from getting lost/forgotten, protects your front element a bit and protects the filter.

Well, when the sun goes in! :p

or you walk from the sunny square into the dark chuch the scenarios are endless!

I have to admit to quite often just unscrewing mine clipping the lens cap on one side and slipping it in a pocket haven't done any damage yet!

If I want it off for longer periods of time I put it back in the plastic case and toss it in my bag.

I use a LowePro S&F filter pouch for my 100x150mm filters, and I'm about to buy a hard case from Speedgraphic for my new Heliopan 105mm polariser.

If you need cheap, light and sturdy storage for Cokin/Lee system filters, you could do worse than Lee filter wraps (fabric pouches that hold three filters each) and an old plastic VHS video case.

all the filters I have purchased have come with reasonable cases, my CPL is on 99% of the time. A tripod negates the need to remove the CPL in the dark!
