My car is due for it's 36,000 mile full service and was quoted £240 by the dealer. It seems a mite expensive to me and was wondering if a local garage would be able to do it, and if the service history was not stamped by the dealer and by a local garage will this lower the value of the car if/when I try to re-sell it?

Thanks

When do you plan on selling it? With a car that new I'd say its still worth going with a dealer so you can say it has full peugeot service history, but then if you are planning on keeping it till 200k miles when its worth approximately 50p then it won't be.

dealer SH can add money to the value, but it depends if you want to spend out on it.
2 or 3 services and you would have spent the money that you make back anyway.

my bm has fBMWsh, but it wont make a difference if i sell it tbh, so from now on its going to indy's!

That's quite high.

My local Pug dealership is doing a silver service AND MOT for 99.99 and a gold service for £199.99 inc MOT. I have a 306 HDi and i got the 99.99 inc MOT

What level of service is needed at 36,000 miles? what does the handbook say?

The joke is quite often you can do a better service yourself, id rather buy a car with a full service history from me or another enthusiast than a cost cutting dealer/garage any day. I actually put good quality oil in for example and decent plugs and when i see other problems i fix them rather than wait till it comes up for MOT and give myself a big bill etc get a haynes manual and get your hands dirty imo

I asked the Peugeot dealer about a service yesterday. They quoted me £260 for my 2.0L 307 XSI 3 years old with 40K (not at 40k but i wanted to know how much it would cost).

The woman on the desk told me to try express fit.. the tire and service department at Peugeot. And they quoted me £159.99. Thats for an identical service including dealership stamp.

So try there tyre department there price may vary.

True, the few times I've taken the car to garages for basic work they don't seem to do a proper job - they just want the car out of there ASAP so that they can work on the next one. Unfortunately when time comes to sell, the buyer doesn't know if the self-service history you're showing him is for real or just an imaginary list you produced. I'm sure plenty of people will also think you will have done inferior work to that of a garage who "would know best"
