which of these 3 set-ups is the better? I have no idea when it comes to CAS and MHz of RAM

It will bet set up with i7 on a Z68 board

8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz CAS 8-8-8-24
8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1866MHz CAS 9-10-9-27
8GB (4x2GB) DDR3 2000MHz CAS 10-10-10-27

Also is 1600MHz CAS 8-8-8-24 worth an extra £20 compared to 1600MHz CAS 9-9-9-24. will i really see much of a diff?

Personally, if they're branded memory (Corsair, Kingston, Crucial, etc...) I would get the 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz CAS 9-9-9-24.

And no the 8-8-8-24 is not worth the extra £20 over the slightly slower timings as you wont notice any real time gain.

Edit: For example this Kingston set - link - on a this week special is great value and has a proven track record of running sub 1.58V (crucial when clocking SB) and will usually run at 1.5V.

This Week Only has ended on those.

Try these:

G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £38.39 until next Wednesday morning

Or these with low profile heat spreaders for the best compatability will large CPU coolers:

Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £41.99 until next Wednesday morning

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £39.98

Hehe, the offer probably ended 10 minutes after i hit submit on my post - forgot it was Wednesday.

All of the sticks that Surveyor has linked to above are great value - i personally favour the Corsair.
