CAS

Cas is less important than other timings.
ie Cas2 and TRCD 3 would yield worse performance than cas 3 and TRCD 2 :)

Which RAM is it?

Corsair XMS Xtreme TwinX Matched - memory - 2 GB ( 2 x 1 GB ) - DIMM 184-PIN - DDR

Its [No prices for competitors please -Minstadave]

*This is not from Overclockers

You got that the wrong way round: Its cas thats the most important

for that price go for OCZ platinum they do 2-3-2-5 T1 command rate which the best for 2Gb kit (1Gbx2)

/edited, decided to go for the OCZ Platinum

Slightly better timings of 2-3-2-5 and its £30 (£40 after postage) cheaper :D

Thanks :)

Really, since when :/

Not sure with C2D set ups but with AMD setups CAS latency is one of if not the most important figure. Can't really see it changing thant much as CAS was alway the figure to look out for.

Did I? *checks* nope, don't think so :)
TRCD has a bigger impact on performance and clocking than CAS does. Loosening TRCD will give you more FSB headroom than loosening CAS will. Tighter TRCD yields more performance than tight CAS.

Buying ram based on CAS is a BAD idea. It's the other timings you want to look at.

That only really applies at all to AMD hardware and even there CAS 2 will give big improvements over CAS 3 almost regardless of the other timings in most cases... on intel changing tRCD and tRP generally make nano-second differences and little in the way of bandwidth...

however

under perfect conditions the lower tRCD is the faster the memory would be and should make more difference than CAS does... in practise it doesn't seem to work out like that.

CBA arguing.
Your right I'm wrong.
Buy ram with the lowest CAS. The other timings don't actually make any difference was just talking BS in a vain attempt to look like I knew what I was talking about.

RAM latencies are BS for the most part any how... the difference in performance is almost always nil... except between extremes i.e. 3-4-4-10 and 2-2-2-5... the end user probably wouldn't notice any framerate difference or faster applications between 2-2-2-5 and 2.5-3-3-7.

Well why not link to where you are checking so that we can have a read and understand why it makes more of a difference rather than just telling us and getting in a huff when people don't just accept it?
