Hello,

looking for recommendations for an uber case that apart from looking nice has to house a wad of hard disks and optical drives. The whole thing is gonna be air-cooled and would be good to have the option to cool each of the eight hard disks.

Budget Approx £150-£200 thanks! :)

That looks quite good, I wonder though is that one of the cases that holds the mobo upside down? I failed to mention I will be using a mobo that features a heatpipe cooler for the NB/SB and I thought these don't work so well when the mobo is inverted?

It is one of those sort but AFAIK the heatpipe worry is poppycock. The pipes have internal wicks so that they function without the aid of mavity.

EDIT: Though Asus's official statement says not to mount them upside down.

No problems with inverted mobo in V2000.

I am running Asus A8N32SLI Deluxe, which also has a heatpipe for both NB/SB, without problems.

:)

The Thermaltake Mozart TX comes close in that it has room for 5 5.25" devices and 7 3.5" devices. A Mountain Mods U2 UFO would fit the bill if you're OK with a cube case.

As has been said it makes no difference, I have an Abit AB9 in my v1200+ with no problem.

why do you need so many drives
It's not for me its a client with 'loadsa' money who is wanting a media-pc for his home-cinema. The mobo I am intending to use has two IDE channels spare so I thought why not just max them out with Optical drives, I mean there are £20 each and the case has got space for them so why not?

I don't think they generate much heat or indeed draw much power and it may make the machine look a bit more 'out there' :D

And costing your client £60 more for no reason?

Personally, given a large budget, I'd approach it slightly differently. I'd be looking at a small, attractive, HTPC style front end with a single optical drive. But with a second back-end PC with the hard drives, etc. This allows them to store away the noisey server somewhere else.

Yup that exactly what he's doing, however the server won't be noisy.

I'm not die-hard to shove more drives in there for no reason, but having 4 DVDs in a machine at once could be quite funky, bit like a CD-changer you have in a car except just four lol. a lot of DVD's come with a few disks these days so could be handy for a couch potato :D

The cheapskates don't use wicks in MB coolers, it'll still work alright upside down, but just slightly hotter.
