Hi all

How do I stop dust cloggin up my Fans?

The worst affected fan is the case fan, behind the CPU cooler, sucking all the air toward the rear and out of the case!

i use to use filters on my machine to stop the dust blocking the fan, but in the end i gave up as was having to take it apart every week to unclog the front filter. ;)

gave up with filters (apart from intake fans), you just end up de-dusting the filter instead of the fan
Yeah, but that's the idea. I can take my filters out, run water over them in the sink, let them dry, reinstall, and have a very clean case. If I didn't have the filters I'd be using a can of air, wee pipe cleaners, and a soft toothbrush to try to dislodge dust that's adhered to the fans, heatsinks, case, and motherboard

Cleaning the filters is a heck of a lot easier.

just use filters on the intakes, and once every month wip the exhausts out, and give the blades a quick wipe with a sock, and blow on the mobo/GFX...works like a charm :D

i suppose it all comes down to accessibility, if mine were easier to get too i would still have them as is i have to pull the front off which means pulling the top and sides of my case.

i prefer to think of the dust as sound proofing. ;)

i have no dust protection at all, 3 fans down the front of my case with nothing to stop anything getting in, and a 25cm side fan with no protection and a lot of holes in the top of my case without protection lol.

i just use a air compressor to blow all the dust out every 2 months or so.

That's exactly what I do. Without filters it's a lot more work.

I got these from the US.

Does that really work?

we still use that trick for a old rally mini we look after, no air filter box at all just a piece of tights fabric stretched over the throttle body.

anything that lets air through while stopping dust/debris can be a filter doesnt matter if it costs 1p or £100 all boils down to the same thing.

Use some of these on the intake fans....
There only about £2.50 each from UK retailers

Do a search for " AKASA fan filter "

Or these " AC Ryan Fan Filter "

 Hi,

The thing with intake filters is that they will restrict the airflow going into the case thus increase the temps in your case :( just clean the case out abit more often and that should keep you up and running. ;)
