So I am building a new system before christmas. It is black friday in the USA this Thursday which means black friday and lots of deals to be had.

I thought I would get a case and PSU as that is something that rarely fluctuates in price and won't lose performance/value etc.

I have some requirements in mind, my current case is a pretty good looking coolermaster and i'm willing to spend a decent amount on a case but not something insane.

SO with that in mind I want:

1. Space - I HATE tight cases it makes building so difficult and I just don't need the hassle. I plan on running two gpus are some point so the case needs space and cable management.

2. The case needs to look good, nothing tacky and silly like some nonsense alienware. I want something classy.

3. Cooling. Whilst I won't be water cooling or overclocking, I want the system to be cool, noise doesn't bother me really so if it has a lot of fans it's np.

4. USB 3 front panel. Something I want.

As for the PSU, again it must have the ability to run two GPUs at some point in the future. I don't want to have to replace the powersupply once I decide to get a second GPU.

It also needs to be modular, nothing drives me more crazy than lose cables and I really regret not getting one on my last build. I want something reliable as my pc is pretty much on all the time.

Corsair 540 or 750 would be my choice. The Silver and Black 540 is my favourite, although it isn't out yet. Here is a good selection of psu's from 750w up to 1000w depending on what cards you go for.

YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 1000W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £139.99
1 x Corsair Obsidian 750D Full Tower Case - Black (CC-9011035-WW) £134.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case - Silver (CC-9011034-WLED) £126.95
1 x Silverstone Strider Plus 850W Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply (SST-ST85F-P) £124.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case - Black (CC-9011030-WW) £105.95
1 x Seasonic G series 750w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £99.95
Total : £772.30 (includes shipping : £32.90).

Which two GPUs should you PSU be capable of running?

540 and 750D both sound like they could be good choices. The Bitfenix Ronin is a sort-of-similar but cheaper option.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair RM Series RM 1000 '80+ Gold' 1000W Power Supply (CP-9020062-UK) £169.99
1 x Seasonic X-Series 850w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £149.99
1 x Corsair Obsidian 750D Full Tower Case - Black (CC-9011035-WW) £134.99
1 x Corsair RM Series RM 850 '80+ Gold' 850W Power Supply (CP-9020056-UK) £109.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case - Black (CC-9011030-WW) £105.95
1 x BitFenix Ronin Tower Case - Black £69.95
Total : £764.98 (includes shipping : £20.10).

Those PSUs are all currently on offer, ending Wednesday morning.

Thanks for the feedback, I haven't decided on GPUs yet. I was going to try and get the case and PSU first and then start looking for the main components.

The corsair 750 looks ideal for what I am after, I think I will go with that. Hopefully I can find it somewhere on BLack Friday.

I'd go for the Corsair 750D and a modular Corsair PSU. I have the TX750M and it's great. If you're gonna be running two GPU;s though you're gonna want a PSU with a higher wattage than 750, especially if you're planning to overclock at any point

Im about to upgrade my case and PSU ...

Iv finally decided on the CM storm stryker (it was a choice between that and the NZXT Switch but I prefer the look of the stryker) and for PSU im going for the Corsair AX 760i Digital... I hear they have some fan noise issues but with a 7 year warranty im sure I can find a workaround
(rest of the system is ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ AMD 990FX, AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz Black Edition, I picked up a pair of EVGA GTX 560ti really cheap so will run them in SLI .... bit of a let down with the GFX cards but its all I can afford for now but upgrading from a Geforce 8400 GS I might notice a little difference lol)

Thanks for the feedback, I haven't decided on GPUs yet. I was going to try and get the case and PSU first and then start looking for the main components.

You'll want to have a decent idea of which components to get before you get your PSU, otherwise you'll end up with something inefficiently powerful or (worse) insufficiently powerful.

I have no idea what kind of power I need with dual GPU's. I just read a bunch of reviews of some highend corsair PSUs and they mention the noise or coil whine?

More than likely I will be getting two radeons r9 280s or something along those lines. I am looking to get one GPU at first then in a month or two drop in another. I will be spending around $300-$350 on each gpu, i'm not sure what that will get me. Does anyone know what kind of power I will need to run two of those? The CPU I will be using will be a i7-4770k.

A good 750W would handle 280X crossfire:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Seasonic 760w '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply £137.99
2 x Silverstone Strider Plus 750W Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply (ST75F-P) £109.99 (£219.98)
1 x Seasonic G series 750w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £99.95
Total : £472.02 (includes shipping : £11.75).

That 750w Seasonic is at a fantastic price at the moment, but only until 8am tomorrow morning.

However, if you end up spending a bit extra on the GPU and going for a pair of 290s you'll probably want 850w:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Professional Series AX 860W '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply (CP-9020044-UK) £167.99
1 x Seasonic X-Series 850w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £149.99
1 x Silverstone Strider Gold Evolution 850w 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply (ST85F-G) £146.99
1 x Corsair RM Series RM 850 '80+ Gold' 850W Power Supply (CP-9020056-UK) £109.99
Total : £584.56 (includes shipping : £8.00).

I have a 750D an have to say it is very good. I would highly recommend it.

Bumping this thread because I can't seem to find this case anywhere in stock in the USA from the usual online retailers.

Are there any other recommendations along the same lines as the 750D. I was thinking maybe the coolermaster Storm Stryker, but there was another CM case I saw awhile ago that looked like the Stryker but seemed more elegant.

For the PSU I'd go with this

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-108-CS&groupid=701&catid=123

It'll give you all the power you need and leave some in reserve, better to have too much than not enough I say.

Another vote here for the Obsidian 750D, the case is very roomy and it's an absolute pleasure to build in, looks great as well, don't give up your search for this case, go the extra mile to obtain one. If not then I'm sure someone can recommend something along those lines.

I've decided to wait on the 750D. At the moment it is out of stock everywhere. It's annoying as I wanted to have the new PC built for Christmas, but the case looks great and worth the wait. I have decided on the CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W, I love the idea of a fully modular PSU.
