Case - AV Gear size?

I am after a case which I am gonna be sticking my Xbox innards into which I want to be the same size as proper AV gear (dvd player, amp etc) to fit in my cabinet.
Basically the Xbox looks a little out of place in there at the moment and its odd shape means I cant stack anything on top of it which is a bit of a pain and as its primary use is as a media player then it seems apt.
So I am looking for an HTPC style case to stick the lot in. I am thinking it should have a cd drive cover (like the Lian-li style where its all hidden behind a spring loaded flap) which will save me having to perform major surgery on the existing Xbox disk drive.
Which cases would actually be the correct size for doing this?
Budget probably 60 - 100 quid but nothing to flash like the pricey silverstones as I am going to be hacking it up a bit :D
Finally it must be white or silver ideally to keep the missus happy.

The Silverstone Lascala series would also fit the bill, and for £100 you can get a Silverstone Lascala!

Just not from OcUK, remember there are about 30 models...

Cheers for those guys.
Badbob - sorry mate but those cases are pretty horrible looking TBH. No offence to yourself of course, they just dont really fit in with an AV gear look IMO.

Yewen - cool cheers for those, didnt realise they where available for less than 170 - 200 quid TBH. Last time I looked at Silverstone was back a few years ago when I built a HTPC. Wouldnt be from OcUK even if they had them TBH...

Ahhh we wont go into that OcUK thing.

But the low end Lascala's are built to a high standard, just have NO features, which seems perfect for what you want!

Let me know which case you decide on, if the Lascala's do not fit the bill, then there are some other, although in my opinion inferior options to consider.

You could for example buy a broken Hifi Seperates CD player, and mount it in that.

;)

LC04 looks pretty decent, as does the LC13 (which is wee bit cheaper - probably due to no built in PSU which is not a worry) and the LC17S (though may be a bit on the big size for what I need)
When you say high standard do you mean better than a no-name cut your fingers PC case or on par with Lian Li et al? If its got the quality of the Lian-li then I would be well impressed as I have a V2000 for my PC and its simply stunning TBH.

Mounting in my old DVD player was going to be an option but the dvd drive placement is a bit more difficult due to it being a full size PC drive in the Xbox and a the dvd players slot is kinda fixed height. I could buy one but until you get it open and find out its not big enough I could have bought the new case for it.

What are the other options that you are hinting at? I really do prefer quality above cheap TBH.

Well there are some old Coolermaster ATCS cases nocking around still, about £40 and are quite nice, for the money they are outstanding.

And the Silverstones, usually they are built just slightly worse than Lian Li's in my experience, but ahead of all the other major UK case makers

ATCS 600's may fit the bill aswell, there are some quite nice models that would disguise the drive extremely well.

Ah yes, think I found the sort of thing you mean.
Coolermaster ATC-620 @ 41.00
the 630 looks nice too, but motherboard space looks a bit restrictive...I will have to measure up the Xbox motherboard tonight I think to see how we will go.
Thanks for the help so far though Yewen.

No worries.

After I have eaten I will see if I can find anything else, but if you could get the motherboard size it may help a little in me not posting useless cases!

Good luck finding one though, although now you are obliged to post pictures of the finnished case up when your done. ;)

Just dremel right through the motherboard, in two pieces it will fit in any case ;)

(*not serious*)

Anyhow, what dimensions do you want the case to fit to?

Just thought about maybe having a aluminium box and modding it yourself to be suitable, could be quite good if you have a dremel handy.

Basically I want it to be roughly 420mm wide which is around the same as standard AV gear IIRC.
I just really want it to blend in a little better as a bit of AV hardware rather than looking as it does. I changed my orginal xbox to a crystal case one last year which had negated the need for a while, but we bought a new TV cabinet the other day and it now sticks out like a sore thumb as its more exposed. I dont actually use the console for anything other than streaming my mass of media from my NAS server via XBMC anymore since I got a 360.
Alu box could be another option, though I am must admit it will probably end up looking quite "ghetto" knowing my mad skills and not be as "missus pleasing" as a ready made solution LOL.

Ahhh the other half interferes :p

The silverstones most likely will be the best all round solution, as they do make the most stylish cases for what you are after by far.

The 630b ATCS is a very nice case ;) If it will fit I would say maybe go with that, unless you like a Lascala at the same price point.

Gonna be going for the ATC 620 when I get paid next week, will be modding it straight away I think (give me something to do on these dull night shifts at work LOL).
The 630 was going to be the main option as I really like the looks of it over the 620, however its not really AV sized unfortunately.
The Silverstone is perfect but for a first proper case mod I dont think I am brave enough to start cutting apart 100 quids worth of case :)
Thanks for the input guys, I think I will put together a photo how to when I do this mod I think on my webby.

I had a mini-itx board 17cm X 17cm in an old Marantz CD player for a while, complete with full sized DVD and hard disk you just need to find a player with the CD drive at one end not in the middle, worked pretty well but the !U rack mount power supply was abit of a screamer!
