Having planned a matx system and not being able to settle on a case I some how ordered a Silverstone Sg13 last night purely on the size of the case.

Could somebody please spec me a mini-itx motherboard, intel chip and ram?

I have no interest in overclocking, only light gaming and some photo editing, doesn't need to be top of the range but fast enough to last a few years, built in wireless would be nice to save a port but not absolutely necessary.

MSI Z87I AC type / paste that into google and click shopping.
Because Z87 doesn't support Broadwell CPU's they are starting to be sold off for ridiculously good prices.
They are still fine for Haswell and you'll save a good chunk of your budget buying one of those at knockdown prices.
Be quick though they won't last long at those prices and when they are gone, they are gone.

Suffice it to say that the "Z" boards are for overclockers.
Normally someone like you that has no interest in overclocking would buy a "H" board, H87, H97.

But because of the current price of that MSI board, there is no logical reason for you to buy a more Expensive H or Z board.

CPU: Will the software you use for photo editing take advantage of a quad core CPU? What do you class as Light gaming?
Which GPU (if any) are you going to use with the build?

I assume so its Adobe Lightroom 4, light gaming will only be COD now and again, off the top of my head I've got a 4670 I believe in my current system which handles COD and will probably use that for now and upgrade it in the future.

To be fair that Msi z87 looks well specced for 70 quid for the gaming version

£59 delivered for the Msi Z87i Gaming, bargain thanks for the help Legion, just to get the rest sorted now

Lightroom 4 likes cores so an i5 4460 would be my pick for your needs.
Don't buy an i3, Lightroom 4 works poorly with hyperthreading, the i5 will be much faster.

Any ram you fancy really, I assume the photo editing you do is non-professional?

a 2x4gb kit of ddr3 1600 is good enough to keep your budget under control and as a non-overclocker I'm not going to complicate things for you further.

That's a good kit I've used several times for builds for friends and family.

Let us know how you get on.

Case arrived, its tiny compared to my tower.

With regards to Ram would I have any issues putting a single 8gb stick in and adding a second at a later date?

Appreciate the help legion, I've been reading some threads and people are recommending the Intel Pentium K Anniversary G3258 Socket LGA1150 Processor, how much more will the i5 4460 give more over this processor?

Lightroom is heavily CPU dependant and loves cores.

The pentium k is a dual core, the i5 4460 obviously quadcore.

You'll get almost double the performance in Lightroom 4 with the i5.
The gap will close if you overclock the Pentium k and a quick google will show you these results.

After spending most of the day reading and comparing prices I went for a i5 4690k as the cost difference was tiny, with a Corsair H90 and 2 x 4gb of Hyperx Savage ddr3 1866mhz.

All I need to do now is decide on an Ssd and operating system
