hello :)

hope i got the right section here...

do any of the components inside of the pc use the case chassis as a 'common ground/earth' ?

im asking because i just built a new desk for my home studio, and im wanting to incorperate my pc's (minus their cases) into the legs of my desk...

when ive built pc's in the past, i see that every component or there abouts is screwed onto the metal pc chassis in one way or other.... the mobo, psu, pci/pci-e cards etc... which leads me to believe that its been done like that for a reason.

is as it first seems... a 'common ground/earth' ? or is it maybe a sencondary layer of protection for your components in case of accidential earthing / getting rid of static charges / or failure of primary earth circuit ?

would it be wise to strip out my pc cases... and incorperate the metal mobo mounting plate and pci card fixing plate into my design ?

if anyone has any other useful advice that would assist me in my little project... id appreciate it if you would be kind enough to share it with me :)

many thanks in advance :)
