Case choice - Lian Li V1100, V1000, A10B or Akasa Mirage...?

  • Lian-Li PC V1100 PLUS Black
  • Lian-Li PC V1000 PLUS Black
  • Lian-Li PC A10B
  • Akasa Mirage 62
I can't decide between these 4 cases. A door would be preferable, but I don't want to compromise too much on the cooling aspect. I've never had a Lian Li, but I hear great things about them. I currently have an ATCS Coolermaster 710-GX1, which is a pretty solid case (weighs a ton too!). Had this for about 4 years or so I think. Pic of one here; http://www.techangel.co.uk/reviews/atcs710/case4.jpg

I'm concerned a case like the Mirage may be a bit flimsy in comparison. Which is why I'm leaning towards the Lian-Li. Cooling and quiet are important factors.

If relevant, this is what I'm planning on putting inside;
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
  • ASUS P5W64 WS Professional i975X
  • Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
  • Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular PSU
  • GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz RAM
  • 74 Gb Western Digital WD740ADFD Raptor, SATA150, 10000 rpm
  • 36 Gb Western Digital WD360ADFD Raptor, SATA150, 10000 rpm
  • EVGA 8800GTS
Any advice/thoughts much appreciated. Thanks... (EDIT: added A10B to my shortlist)

:)

Don't worry about cooling with the V1100. I have one, and it's not a plus so no blower fan etc, and it cools my system just fine. It's a very, very classy case too, my favourite Lian Li by a long way.

Thought I would bump this rather than start a new thread.

I'm looking at both the Eclipse and V1100, and to be honest I'm sold on both of them. What I would like to know is what justifies the (just under) £50 increase in the V1100? I know the Eclipse comes without fans, but I've never paid £25/fan, and I don't intend to start :)

Many thanks in advance.

Ive got the eclipse (mirage without door) and its a bloodly lovley case - cant speak for the lian li's but i can tell you if you get the mirage you WILL NOT be disapointed - its soooooo nice

OK - the difference is in the build quality really. Yes, you do get 3 fans plus a 3.5" adapater and a 5.25" stealthing plate with the new V1000 cases (I'm not sure about the ones with the door - maybe you don't get the stealth cover with that one?)

The side panel retention mechanism on the V-series is gorgeous. Rather than sliding the tongues on the alloy panel like on a normal case, there are two locating pins on the panel. These slot into holes on the side of the case and then you push a 'lever' on the back of the case to lock it into position. No fuss, no messing about. It just fits perfectly, every time.

One of the reasons it fits perfectly is that it's a solid sheet of 2.5mm aluminium. The Eclipse/Mirage side panels are 1.25mm aluminium rolled to 2.5mm at the edges. They flex. The Lian Li side panels don't flex. At all.

Then I could wax lyrical about the HDD retaining mechanism on the V1x00 but I won't. You really need to see the two side by side to appreciate where your money is going.

I don't need to mention the plastic front on the Eclipse, do I? It's not a problem for me, but for some people it's just the living end.

Finally, with the Lian Li you get a colour choice - silver or black. With the Eclipse/Mirage it's black, black or black.

I have not seen or heard of a single human being who, upon seeing a Lian Li in the flesh, has had anything but praise for their build quality and appearance. Not one negative. Yet the number of people I see unconvinced by these cases who have never even seen one is just bizarre! Oh well, it would be a pretty boring world if EVERYONE had a Lian-Li I guess!

:)

The Akasa is an awesome case. It may be flimsy in comparison, but thats not to say its badly built.
But if you want it to looks awesome the Lian Li is undoubtedly the way to go though.

I have just recently acquired a V1000 plus2 and a V2000 plus2. Both are absolutely stunning cases and an improvement on previous Lian-Li's I have had in terms of quality, fan noise, hard drive retention, etc, etc...

If you decide on the V1000 over the other model, think about spending another £25 on the V2000. I wish I had brought two V2000's instead of one of each. There is so much room in the case it is ridiculous, and everyone who sees it has a jaw-drop moment. It looks massive, stunning and massive... :D

I'm on the verge of getting a V1000. I did notice the V2000 but it looked a bit TOO big to me. But you've got me wondering. Is the build quality the same, only the size being the difference? If you've got both, would you mind posting pics of them? Would be incredibly useful. Thanks.

I agree 100% that it's an awesome case for the money. There is nothing wrong with the build quality. Lian Li use *** same 1.25mm aluminium sheeting in the PC7 and PC-G50 series cases. If you spent £50 more on the Akasa I'm sure they could make it from 2.5mm aluminium as well.

Quoted for truth. I think the V-series are the best looking cases currently in production.

I have the V1000B+ and it's superb. My only criticism is the naff screws they use (they just fall apart).

What are you doing with them to make them fall apart? It must be one gigantic screwdriver you've got there :p
