Ok, first of all here a pic of the rig, I'm trying to keep it cool and quiet:
This rig overall has 6 fans right now:
1) 120mm PSU fan (3.3v), sucking air into the PSU - not very visible in pic
2) Top fan is 80mm (5v), sucking air out the top of the case
3) CPU fan is 80mm (5v), blowing air onto the CPU heatsink
4) Northdridge fan is 60mm (5v) and blowing air onto the Northbridge heatsink
5) There is a 92mm (5v) fan strapped to the hard disk to keep it cool.
6) Southbridge fan is 40mm (3.5v) and blowing air onto the Southbridge heatsink
Quick rig rundown for those interested:
2400+ Athlon XP-M (35W model) - 225 x 8 @ 1.325v = 1800Mhz
DFI ultra infinity - funky BIOS and a few extra heatsinks
1 gig BH-5 - 225 @ 11-2-2-2-2 @ 3v
can't remember gfx and HD, but I've gone for quietness over performance with this rig, as all the fans are running at less than 800rpm. The only thing you can hear is the HD.
Excuse the messy wiring, it's not quite finished.
Now, I've been running it with the side off for a while now, and I'm getting nice low temps, but with the side on, my temps get a bit too high. This is probably becuase I don't have any fans blowing air into the case.
Now, I have a few more 80mm fans that I can put in various place easily on the case. Namely in the rear below the PSU where the CPU cooler is, and I can also add a fan or two in the sidepanel that is it currently removed.
Now I'm guessing It would be worth having the fans blowing air into the case as I already have an exhaust fan in the top of the case?
So, what I need is an idea of where the best place to have the extra fans, and would it be better to have them moving air into or out of the case?
