Hi Folks,
Bit of a cooling issue with my new(ish) rig at the moment. After my Gigabyte z87-oc bit the dust along with 2x XfX PSUs, I've had a new mobo and PSU (as below). However, noticed today the stock CPU fan was on full, so checked out the case fans and they weren't on at all.
Case: Fractal Define XL -7 fan mounting points
Mobo: Asus Maximus Hero VI (4 pin connectors)
PSU: 850w BeQuiet modular (with 3 x fan connectors)
CPU: i5 4670k (stock)
GFX: GTX 770
Stock case fans = 3x 140mm 3pin (one at rear, one at bottom, one at front)
Additional ones: 1 x fractal silent series 140mm in side (3pin), 1 x bitfenix spectre 140mm on top (3pin), 1 x bitfenix spectre 140mm front (3pin)
The 3 x stock case fans are connected to a molex plug which doesn't seem to want to play anymore when connected to a lead from the PSU, and the other fans are connected directly to the PSU, which means unfortunately that there is no control over speed.
Is it worth getting a fan controller and connecting all / most of the fans up this way, or would a molex > 4 way fan adaptor thing work? I've tried the two different modular cables that use molex but the fans still don't work. Alternative, flog the 3 pin fans on fleabay and buy some 4 pin fans (but this will be more expensive than a controller).
TLDR: Fan controller / molex to 3pin adaptor / 4pin fans ?
