Case fans and fan controller

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a CIT Vantage type-r case which has 4 Molex fans in it.

They are kinda quiet, but when idling they were a little too loud so I decided to get a fan controller.

The only molex controller I could find was the Aerocool F6XT.

Having installed it, there is a problem. When I adjust the fan speeds, which are in steps 1 2 and 3, at 1 and 2, there is a loud buzzing from the fans. It is like a robotic noise and it changes in pitch depending on setting 1 or 2.

Is there any solution to this? or do I have to send it back.

Thanks,

Chris

It could be that the fans don't like getting less than 12v. Have you any other fans you could try on the controller to rule out your fans?

As for the noise it's hard to tell but it could be PWM noise I suppose. Bit tricky to diagnose a noise without hearing it.

I just connected up a old cpu fan, and it does seem to be that the case fans don't like being under 12V because the cpu fan was fine.

The noise actually sounds a bit like the dial up tone when you used a dial up connection. In that kind of sound spectrum.
