Case for 360mm rad

That does look nice but there are a few design elements I'm not a fan of... not sold on the looks and I don't think I could get my cable management good enough to not look like a huge mess with that glass panel on the cable side lol, don't know why they do that, what proportion of PC users in total use custom PSU cables?

Fair enough! I've got a white 570x on the way, going to stick the Corsair 150i in the front with Lightloop fans all round, ordered custom cables from Shakmods as well, it's costing me an arm and a leg but should look pretty incredible when done.

That's going to look awesome if you are going down the whole custom cables etc route and RGB fans! Just that it's above my skill/money level at the moment to do something like that lol

Hopefully! Got an image in my head as to what it'll look like so I'm hoping it turns out well! Thinking of painting the EMI shield on my trusty 10 year old Asus Xonar D2X sound card to match too. Recently did a major overhaul of the system but I'm not happy with it so changing most of it again aside from the most expensive parts :)

You decided on which case to get or going with a wait and see approach?

Same with me haha although I don’t think it’ll be quite as impressive somehow! I have that same sound card, took it out when I rebuilt it but I think it’s going back in again when I rebuild it again. I’ve just refreshed mine a bit with a new GPU (and a rash impulse purchase of another :( )and RAM after building the system in 2013 (some of it reused from my first build in 2011!)

I’m still torn between the Fractal R6 and the Corsair 400c, leaning slightly towards the Fractal for flexibility in any future builds and it’s better looking (IMO). There is the new Lian Li coming out which I love the look of but from the photos it looks very wide to fit in my space :(

I just tried replacing the D2X with the external Xonar U7 just to get it out of my rig and make cabling a tad easier, but for the life of me I couldn't get DTS working through SPD/IF through the software and it was buggy as hell so that's going back, can't beat the D2X!

I had the 460X a while ago so practically same chassis as the 400c but with tempered glass instead and I found it too small which made cable management a nightmare and took me forever to get it looking decent.

I couldn't fit a rad in the top so I put it in the front and because there was barely any space between the rad and the GPU it was getting silly warm and really loud, also the PSU shroud is pretty crappy too so I'd personally go with the Fractal over it but those Lian-Li cases are looking sweet as well!

I wanted to go with the white R6 but I hated the black front panel on it, ruined the aesthetics of it for me :(

Yeah, it’s a great card, I took it out for tidiness and planned to just use my Audioquest Dragonfly for audio but I’m very quickly missing having a built in card so I think it’s going to have to go back in!

OK point taken on the 400c. Shame because the small size was what attracted me to it in the first place - I’d be willing to make some sacrifices in ease of building to get there but not in temps and noise.

Seems like the Fractal is the one for what I want to do... almost seems silly considering anything else but for the size issue.

Yeah it's a shame as I liked the look of the case which is why I decided to go for its bigger brother the 570X which I didn't get originally as it was pricey, wish I just got it in the first place now, took it out of its box when it arrived and it looks even better in person.

You could have a look at the less known manufacturer cases like the Rajintek, seen a few people use those and they look very nice.

I have had a look at the Raijintek ones on your recommendation, and just as I was starting to seriously consider the Asterion I see the glass panel on the cable management side! That’s supposed to be the ugly side you don’t want to look at! Same reason I discounted the 570x - I’m not going down the custom cable route.

I know some people put dark car window tint on the “cable” side or vinyl wrap it or something but I’d sooner just go for the R6. Real shame as there are some very nice cases I’ve had to discount due to that :(

Will you be looking at that side a lot though? Mine's facing the wall so I don't mind glass being on that side, it'll still make me want to do a good job at cable tidying behind there though!

Not a lot but you’d still be able to see it if you looked - it’s not going up against a wall on either side, it’s going under a desk. Shame as I really like the case a lot otherwise :(

Need to check up on how much clearance there is at the front of an R6 - hoping to get push pull fans in there and the rad I’ve got my eye on is 60mm thick... the majority of the cases I’ve looked at will barely fit a slim rad and 1 set of fans in there before it’s hitting either the hard drive cages or PSU shroud. Beauty of the R6 is that it can have the 2 3.5” mounts behind the motherboard. Hope to go all SSD eventually which would open up a lot of options but that probably won’t be for a long while.

Looking at all the space in the front of the R6 I'd definitely say that was possible to do, there's a ton of room.

I went all NVMe/SSD in this build, 1x 250GB NVMe, 1x 1TB NVMe and 1x 1TB SSD love not having any mechanical drives, I've just got a 4TB External for storage.

Hope so, wouldn't be the end of the world if I couldn't squeeze that rad in there. Probably buy the case first and see how much room there is and get a rad to fit.

I'd love to do that... I'm sticking with my mechanical drives until they both die for now though, I have an SSD Windows drive but can't justify the cost for another ~1tb SSD until my current drives stop working.

Shouldn't have any issues, looks to be very roomy in the front!

Yup - found on Fractal’s website somewhere they quote the front rad thickness as “unlimited”

I’m now thinking of getting maybe a 45mm one in the front with only 1 set of fans so I can get the pump in the space as well, and another 360mm rad in the top. Seen that done and it seems to work quite well. Can’t see where the pump would go otherwise, maybe in the back left corner (from the front) next to the cards but that’s not ideal.

Anyway, just thinking aloud, ready to order what I need when I next get paid I think.

The pump next to the rad in the front should work well and would make it look nice and tidy!

I'm doing my build this weekend hopefully, just waiting on the Rockitcool delid tool which is scheduled for Monday but it's already departed East Midlands so I'm hoping it'll arrive tomorrow.
