Hi,

After help in the other parts of the forum now looks like i will be getting the following:

3700 XP with retail fan
Asus SLI motherboard
7800GT
2gb ram
Samgsung SATA hdd
DVD RW

Im not planing on overclocking, but i want a case that is as quiet as possible without my comp frying. I am considering using sli in the future... does that affect the case i choose?

Thanks

Well sounds like you want a low noise case then.

If you like the look of them, the Antec Sonata and p180 are worth considering.

Good enough cooling in them for overclocking if you wanted to, while there aim is to make the least amount of noise possible.

Also may be worth noting that the 7800gt and a retail heatsink on the san deigo are not the quietest of beasts, and will make any case fairly noisey.

Would either the Arctic Cooling T1 or T2 be suitable? They seem to be quite nice cases. I need something with a PSU and under about £70 to be honest.

Does SLI need a certain type of PSU?

Ta again

Oh and wrong forum, but any ideas of alternative coolers for the gt or the cpu?

The PSU is the most important part of the PC.
SLI needs a VERY good psu.

You need to loose the SLI dream and get a better psu.

The Artic Cooling cases are not to great, built very questionably but with adequate power supplies made by Seasonic.

But you ideally want to buy a PSU for around £50 and a case for around £50 to get the most out of that system.

So if i drop the idea of an sli motherboard and the future possibilities...

does that change the case you would recommend, or still go for the Antec Sonata?

My current case isnt that old - its an Eye T 500W case if that means anything, would that be up to the job?

500w, what make is the power supply?

The power supply is the item of concern, as any case will be fine in reality.

But the power supply is the bit which means your pc does not go up in smoke!

came with the case, but the case was only £35!

Every built a few PC's before, but this is the first time ive gone for something quite so up to date. Up to now ive just got value cases. Im honestly not being difficult, just hard spending so much money.

In effect, if you say the antec is the best way to go, then i'll have to go that way... your advice means a hell of a lot and thanks for the time doing this. I really do not want to fry £700 of new kit!

Yeh well your current case would be ok mroe than likely, but that PSU has disaster written on it!

You could keep the case and buy a nice 580w Tagan/hiper/seasonic/enermax psu and be in safety.

Or you could get the Sonata, which I beleive comes with a PSU. Which can be a great bargain as its a high quality unit.

And dont worry about the advice, nice to have someone being apreciative, I dont want your frying your kit either!

Well ive ended up going over budget anyway...

I have ordered a 7800GTX and a Athlon 3700XP.

Asked in the motherboards forum if they still recommend the sli board now im not too bothered bout sli.

Since im guessing the powerdrain will be more with the higher processor you have sold me on the Sonata.

Ta again for all your help, very much appreciated.
