Could anyone spec me a case that'll house the apex ultra+ w/c system AND a BFG 8800GTS 640mb card? (I have heard these are pretty big)

Budget £300 max and aesthetics important but practicality too (ventialtion, space, features, light weight etc)

Wow..... out of all the cases I've been perusing THAT one was the one I was kind of edging towards - now you've suggested it maybe it's FATE I should get it
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone want to try and talk me out of it?

thanks for the offer but I was thinking of something a little less cuboid! :D

this should really be in the cooling forum I suppose, but it IS very related to the case....

If I were to get the Lian Li 2000b would I need to buy any extra fans if my main cooling comes from the Apex ultra+ ?

(totally novice at this stuff)

Hi,

I'm not sure if the kit comes with fans or not, suppose it would as a kit would need everything for it to be a complete kit.

The V2000 comes with fans, both for the back, front and the expansion slot blower fan (if get the II + version).

The Apex ultra kit is a very good kit but it's blocks and pumps have been bettered since. It used the Apogee but since then the GT version have been released and also the DTEK FuZion.

I would go custom, I'm sure you could get a custom kit for the same price of the ultra kit and it would be that little bit better.

This would be a top end kit:

Thermochill PA120.2
Best 120.2 rad you can buy, and beats a Swiftech 120.3 rad

D-TeK FuZion or ApogeeGT
These are neck and neck on performance if you tweak the ApogeeGT with a bigger O-Ring it *should* come with, but the FuZion flows like a beast!)

Masterkleer 7/16" ID tubing
Great stuff, fits very snug over barbs and has good bend radius)

Resevoir
Pretty much any resevoir will do, but I really like the Micro Res from Swiftech as it stops slushing sounds by forcing water down to the buttom of the res, so it doesn't break the surface with full power, making sloshing sounds. Or as an alternative EK multioption res. Fits in a lot of places to and has a lot of input output holes which is great because you can use it as a res and attatch a fill port to it.

GPU Block
Would go with an MCW60 here, same restriction as Maze4 which is good but also seems to have good mounting options, supports last gen ATi/nVidia and also the new 8800 cards, maze blocks don't.)

Fans
Nexus or yates on a sunbeam rheobus controller.

Pump
Laing DDC 18w pump with alphacool plextop or Petras delrin top. What ever is cheaper as both perform about the same

what is the pluses and minuses of a res over a T-line? wouldnt you get a flow rate drop using the res?

the V2000+ is a MASSIVE case, with tons of room for WC, i think ive seen a number of different WC configs in it, either with a 120.2 on the top (cutting a few blowholes), or front mounted in the drive bays.

I'd also say that you'd get a lot more going custom over kits. Also, if you are on a budget, it seems to be generaly advised to get a better pump/rad rather than a crap one and forking out tons on the block. The latter is easier to change anyway!

Second hand info, though ive pondered going WC, ive never taken the dive (money issues really, and ihavent OCed my system to the max on air yet!).

Mekrel, thanks a lot for that post.

Problem is the Apex+ is on its way (had to order during last week's "this week only" offer)

I'd decided in the end that I'd never built a PC before, let alone tried W/C, so I'd try and make it as stress-free as possible (if that IS possible considering its my first time at both).

I will keep your recommendations though, and once I've proven it actually WORKS, maybe think about upgrading one or two bits of that kit. I know the RAD and the CPU BLOCK are very common replacements but in the end I think I just wanted one box with the instructions inside!!!!!

T-Line:
+ Easy to fill
+ Takes up little space
+ Easy to make it the highest point in your loop, where air should go.

- Takes longer time to bleed but time can be cut down with some effort in shaking the case to dislodge air.

Resevoir:
+ Can be as easy to fill as a resevoir if the fill cap is easy to get to.
+ Easy to bleed, just get the air from the blocks into it and then run the system over night with the cap lose to let air out.

- Can take up space, but there are a lot of res' in the market so you could easily find something that works best for you so not a major - point.

As I said, it's still a great kit. It's one of the exceptions to "a kit is only as good as high end air" rule that you hear about.

The only other exceptions are cutom made kits that some water cooling specialist shops make from parts.

The stock apogee is still a great block and the pump is the next best thing to a DDC and as you say it's great that you know it's all compatable with barb sizes etc.
