hello, can anyone suggest a decent case for this build.

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge)
Sapphire radeon 7850 2GB
Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
XFX Pro 650W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (CMX8GX3M2A1600C11)

I was originally going to go with Cooler Master Elite 430 Windowed Case but PC part picker said there was a minor issue of Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H ATX LGA1155 Motherboard has an onboard USB 3.0 header, but the Cooler Master Elite 430 ATX Mid Tower Case does not have front panel USB 3.0 ports. and I was not sure if this was a major issue or not so I was recommended the Corsair 400r but unfortunately it is like 15 cm too long in depth for where I would have it. So I dint no whether to just get it anyways.

can anyone suggest an alternative?

any help appreciated

Your motherboard has a USB3 header that's different from the USB 2 headers, all it means is you wont be able to use USB3 on the front of the case (you've got nothing on the case to connect to the motherboard), USB2 will still work and USB3 on the rear will still work.

So If I use the original case I was going to use will I be able to plug devices like iPods and controller etc using use 2.0 I would imagine?

and one more question that is a bit off topic but when my parts arrive will the CPU have pre applied thermal paste and if so do I remove it and add my own with arctic silver, and do i need to apply any thermal paste anywhere else like the graphics card etc?

You may want to do a bit of reading on installing cpus into the motherboard as no offense but you seem a bit confused.

You put the cpu into the slot and then clip it down. the paste then goes in between the fan and the outside of the cpu. Depending on which fan you've bought it may come with paste or it may not as people like to buy their own.

don't take apart your gpu. no paste needed there.....

yes. a usb3 port is physically the same as a usb2 port except it has extra pins that make contact with usb3 devices. usb2 devices don't utilize the extra pins and will run at usb2 speed.

thanks for the replies and yes I am new to this and did read up on thermal paste I no where to apply it just couldn't remember if I read that if a CPU comes with pre applied paste you should remove it and put your own on while attaching the cooler, so its the cooler that may come with pre applied paste not the CPU. and the gpu part I just thought I remembered something on it and wanted to check

if I am not going to be overclocking right away am I okay with the stock heatsink or should I replace it anyways?

bear in mind some fans do not need paste as they rely one special pads that are pressed onto the cpu.

if your not going to overclock the stock cooler is sufficient. but will have high temps. its up to you. definitely not stock if overclocking though.

Are you planning on overclocking the cpu at all ? either way for the sake of 3 or 4 pounds i would get a tube of artic mx4 as its allways worth having it in just incase and it would probably work better then the stuff that intel pre apply if the stuff they use under the heatspreaders on the ivy cpus is anything to go by.
