Im planning a new build for the summer which will include the following componants:

X2 3800
Radeon 1900 XTX
Seasonic S-12 500w
Hitachi Deskstar 250Gb
DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D
2 Gb RAM (haven't decided which yet)

Now i've been researching cases for a good couple of months and have narrowed it down to two cases

Lian Li V1000+
Antec P180

Now im leaning towards the V1000+ after all the threads on this board. Is it worth the extra money? noise isn't really an issue to me, but i'd like it to be a good cooler as I will be trying my first overclock. Also are both these cases easy to build with as this will be my first.

Well the V1000 is very unconventional so for a first time build MAY be a bit awkward. Whilst it doesn't have the looks of the 1000 I would get a PC7+ as your first case. Good solid conventional case.

Not familiar with the P180 but given the choice I'd go V1000 simply because it's a lovely case.. I'm just concerned about it's unconventional layout causing problems for a new builder.

P180 is harder to build in and just as unconventional.

V1000+ all the way, also I am able to give you to the mm advice if you get stuck on it. :)

Once everything is in, the p180 is a great case. But it was certainly was the hardest rig I ever built.

Yeah i agree, i think the nicest case i've built in is the akasa eclipse god bless removeable motherboard trays :)

took me ages to figure out how to take the bottom chamber fan out! lol

A few things really!

For what is a massive case all the space seems to be taken up with sound deadening panels and the thick chunky interior! The power supply is also sited at the base of the case making cable routing somewhat awkward!!!

If you get a P180 make sure the 12v and main mobo power cabling will stretch to the sockets on the board! I have a p180 with a tagan 580 watt 2force and a sapphire pure advantage crossfire board and the cable only just reaches over my x850xt to the top of the mobo! If i decided to crossfire two cards i expect i'd need an extender for the 12v line!!!

That all said - the case is designed fairly well and you will feel a great deal of pride on completion!

To summarise: It's difficult to build but worth it in my opinion!

ok, so i'm pretty much sold on the p180 (how hard a build can it be?!)

i was just wondering about the volume of the case fans? are there 3 or something?

also, is there an intake fan on the front? how does it draw in air with the door in the way?

one thing im interested in (and i know everyone hates them) is putting a fanless PSU in. do you think the location for PSUs in the p180 makes it more or less suitable for a fanless psu? on the one hand, hot air rises but on the other it might not get much air moving past it.

P180 aint that hard to build in, but if you regulary take motherboard out and work inside your system its gona be a pain.

Fanless PSU's are alright, theres a fan in the lower chamber for the fanless psu. But just go for a FSP 600W Elipson or Seasonic which are pratically silent.

The air is drawn in from groves on the side and a big intake on the bottom of the door. It works well with the aluminium door blocking noise.

Check out the AKASA ECLIPSE 62 and Lian Li PC7+ first then go for the P180 if your still set on it.

Good luck.
