Case for watercooling

Ah, my first post in this forum. Have heard many good things about the wisdom of the contributors here, so thought I'd try my luck :)

Essentially I'm in the planning stages of building a watercooled PC, and my first task is trying to select a decent case. I've built quite a few PCs in the past, but this is my first foray into water cooling... Anyhoo, my upper limit on cost is around £100, and I've managed to make a short list of the following:

Thermaltake Shark

Akasa Eclipse 62

Antec P180

Lian Li PCA10 (the most expensive being over budget ~£149)

Antec 900

My main problem is figuring out where to put radiators without having to cut holes into the case. Ideally I'd like to mount them internally too... Or is there another case anyone can think of? :) Thanks in advance for any help :)

I just put a switech kit (the one with the single 120mm rad) in an Antec P180, everythings inside - no rads hanging off the back or any of that nonsense - and its pretty tight, picture HERE. That is pre-cable tidying BTW, the rad is in the rear 120 fan bay-thing with the fan sucking air into the case, the top fan is an exhaust. Ideally you'd want to use a bigger case but it can be done, obviously easier if you don't mind having stuff hanging off the outside, etc.

One tip is to get yourself a UV reactive coolant and a UV light or two, makes spotting leaks a lot easier.

Good luck

Thanks agentbob, and good job with the 180! I was hoping to use a dual rad a cool the northbridge, gpu (not SLI yet) and CPU, then overclock a little - I just don't know if the 180 is entirely up to the task?!

Just a heads up, you should edit your post as it contains competitors of OcUK. They are not allowed on these boards.

As for the case, the Akasa Eclipse gets lots of recommendations but its ugly as hell, and ive heard good things about the Lian Li PCA10. There’s lots of room for wc and it will be worth the £150 price i think.

Akasa Eclipse 62 I think is best; had Lian Li but think as the Akasa is a little wider it helps a lot. Roof is only capable of a 120.2 rad though.

Vote or the Eclipse. Loads of space to put pumps and res' in their. plus you have a removable top panel so fitting the rad will be nice and easy.

No competitor hinting please!

@ the mod who edited my post: i never mentioned any competitors, i didnt post links, all i said was that you cant get them at ocuk (which is true) and that it would be easy enough to find a 3d aurora using Google, which to my knowledge was not a competitor, unless of course OcUK are now going into the search engine business?

i dont mean to offend, i just want clarification that we now cant use google as an alternative for helping people find stuff OcUK don't sell

That's still effectively promoting competitors.
Saying it can be got elsewere is enough.

Im not trying to start an argument here, see post #4, im all for stopping people mentioning competitors

Im

I have seen it said a thousand times on here 'OcUK don’t sell X you would need to use Google for that item'

So is that banned now?

So looks like Eclipse 62 is flavour of the month then :) Well, a dual rad is all I was planning anyway - will I need to cut holes in the roof, or will this be cutting free? I don't mind drilling new holes into the frame, but actually taking a tool to the external aspects of the case fills me with some dread!

Thanks :) and I think its fair to say a P180 is probably not the best choice for your situation...I think something deeper and wider would be better for running all that piping in, the P180 is not a wide case. Also CPU/NB/SLI GFX cards almost certainly = two rads.

Yes, because it's stil giving people the means to find a competitor.

Even though it isn't direct, people should have the brains to use google in the first place. It's best I find not to hint at price, availability etc and just keep out of trouble.

no, the internet gave the means for people to find a competitor, i just happened to mention a search engine, i in no way mentioned a single competitor, so there was nothing wrong with mentioning Google, its a search engine, it searches, not much else, to be perfectly honest there was more competitors mentioned in the thread about shop staff, 'purple shirt' tells people a lot more than 'Google'

that would be like:
hey, you can get this great case from purple shirt land
or you could search for that case using a search engine

the prior actually hinting at a competitor, but the latter being blocked, just because it gave people a means to find it.

and if OcUK don't sell something, is the seller of that product a competitor?
OcUk don't sell something, so therefore they are not in direct competition for sales of that product.

hell, even the gigabyte site lists a competitor for where to buy this case, would therefore linking to the gigabyte site also be against forum rules?

that said, i will no longer be mentioning google, or anything else to help someone find something that OcUK sells...as i don't want a suspension or permaban, i'll remember what i have learned, and it certainly wont happen again. :D sorry mod peoples

I don't see why you are discussing it with me,

I don't make the rules, I just abide by them and reiterate them to those that seem to not understand. Telling people to google for products has always been part of the rules since I joined many moons ago.
