I'm currently planning a computer overhaul, though mostly keeping my current hardware. The main thing I'm planning to upgrade is my case, from a Asaka Mirage to a Silverstone Fortress. I'm also moving from watercooling back to air, as the only reason I did watercooling before was because I hadn't done it before. The area I'm now looking to have a dabble in is lighting; this will be my first windowed case. If it's not green or black, it's getting replaced or braided. I'm also planning to really nail the cabling, and spend some serious time planning where the cables will run. If a hole is needed, out comes the drill and dremel!

I'm interested in getting the thoughts of those that have played around with lighting. I'm planning on going for a black case with green lighting only. I won't even be connecting the blue power LED, but mounting a green 3 LED spreader on the case to show it's powered up.

I suppose I have two lines of thought:
1/ Do I use UV cathodes, and use green UV reactive fittings/braiding/cables or
2/ Do I just use green cathodes?

I have read that the UV can highlight marks on the window very easy. Which one looks the best? Thoughts/expereinces please....

Ive only ever used UV cathodes but they do look good making the other parts of your PC glow. However it will only really make the UV parts glow, the rest will do nothing really.

If you got the green cathodes then your entire PC would be in a green glow which I think is more the look you'd be going for. Would look pretty cool :)

Or you could use mainly green cathodes and just have a small UV one near your drives or where ever the UV cabling is. Best of both there :p

As a random side note, have you seen the Coolermaster Nvidia cases? Will fit in well with the black/green look you want and they're also meant to be quite good cases too for the money. Check them out here and here :)

DuckySpud, that's definately the look I'm looking for, though part of the reason for changing my case is for me to have a go creating that effect myself.

I guess I'm going to have to use a couple of smaller cathodes to get the lighting I want, as someone said the 12" won't fit in this case.

Shame OCuk only sell the 12" ones....

I have chopped and changed with a lot of tubes.

Main thing is the UV tubes get knocked out by the green cathodes!

The green or whatever colour you use tends to be over powering!

It was me who posted about the 12" cathodes not fitting, there is just not enough length either up the side at the back as the fan is in the way, nor along the bottom.

Trackrag - Would you recommend a couple of 4" then, or something else. I'm sensing this isn't the easiest case to mount lights...

I really fancy making my lights pulse, or at least do something, but I'm struggling to find a method to do this. I thought I'd found a site that sold cathodes where the light moved, but can't find it now...
