Asus motherboard running Asus Aura...

I see four connectors on the Asus motherboard -
1X - 4 pin 'RGB_HEADER'
3X - 4 pin (1 blank) 'ADD_GEN 2'

I need -
A short rgb led strip to go across the top of the case to light up internal components to check fan spin as no fans are led. Colour/brightness adjustable via Asus Aura (currently controlling the 1080ti onboard leds so dont want additional software).

Yet I see talk of 3 pin connectors, not 4 ?. What's the difference between RGB header and ADD GEN 2 ?. Then there's 3pin 5v Y ARGB adaptors ??. If someone can point me to a short rgb color and brightness 'Aura' controllable rgb strip that will plug directly into the motherboard rgb or gen2 connectors I'll be forever in your debt....

Check your manual, but the 4 pin RGB header should be for 12v simple RGB (all LEDs in the strip get the same colour). Suitable strips will generally be referred to as just "RGB", but it's important to check the pinout on the motherboard header vs the strip as there are some variations.

The 4 pin with 1 missing (which as you've seen are typically referred to as 3 pin) is for 5v addressable/digital strips (where each LED can have a colour set individually). Suitable strips may be called "Addressable RGB"/"ARGB" or "Digital RGB"/"D-RGB". These are more standardised.

This claims to be Asus Aura compatible:

Thanks, very helpful. I'm ordering your suggestion...
