OK I doubt this will be as great as some of the amazing case mods on here (or as detailed), but I thought I would add it anyway since I don't think I've seen any modified Storm Scout cases knocking about on here.

Basically this case was bought back in 2010 to house my old 775 system and back then looked pretty much standard... (old mobile pic sorry).

Along the way I messed around with it a lot, and gradually it ending up getting very tatty, and the side window also managed to crack, leaving the case pretty much left for dead and unwanted. It eventually got replaced with a Zalman Z9+ and was chucked under the stairs to throw away when I could be bothered.

Recently though I was talking about working from home and making a new computer to cope with this, so I thought about maybe trying to revamp my old case, despite the mess I'd made of it.

Anyway I sanded the chassis down, and removed the crappy braiding I'd done from part of the case wiring and gave the chassis a couple of layers of primer.

As you can see, I'd already removed the grills where the front and top fans are using a rotary tool, and I will cover these with black edging (can't think of the correct name?).

I intended to paint the case chassis orange, but I had a change of mind and thought the grey would actually suit it very well (I tried the side panels on) so I've scrapped that idea of orange, and will now paint it matt or satin grey.

That's as far as I've managed to get so far, but I have two days left before I go away to work again on Sunday, so hopefully I can update with pics of it sprayed up very soon since I don't get back until the following weekend

:)

It had already been sanded/painted about a year ago, so I just sanded all the old paint down as much as possible really although not to bare metal. Probably took about an hour or so.

Primered up it looks nice and smooth though, so hopefully I did enough prep.

Just took a visit to town, and can't find any matt/satin grey paint... Looks like I'm gonna have to buy it online and spray it when I return home next weekend. :(

Not sure Halfords does the paint I'm after, and B&Q is only a couple of miles away so will probably just go and get this. Looks perfect for what I'm after.

Football is on early tomorrow though (QPR vs Chelsea) so my priorities lie elsewhere at least until the mid/late afternoon! ;)

Small update, just decided to make my own edging for the cut out fan sections.

Quite an easy mod to do, and made from an unused aerial cable! I just cut both ends off, sliced into the skin slightly then pulled the internals out all the way along the skin of the wire, and it made a very neat tear all the way along.

I also wet sanded the outer sections of the case to remove some of the textured appearance. Went slightly through the primer on a couple of bits to the previous paint, not sure it will make too much difference, but oh well.

Probably no further updates until next weekend now! :(

Haven't got the grey paint yet will probably pop to B&Q tomorrow depending on this snow, but I braided all the cables from the case front panel orange. So this leads to a black/grey/orange theme.

Thinking of getting some carbon fibre vinyl to apply to the black plastic sections of the case, and maybe to my PSU. Anyone got a good guide on applying vinyl to non flat surfaces, with a description on how to make it stick to curves and corners neatly? :D

Probably talking to myself in here but in case anyone is interested I ordered some carbon fibre vinyl today, and looking to get some custom cut perspex (220m x 145mm if anyone knows who can make something like this cheap as poss?) to cover the side of the 5.25" driver bay area...

LOL at least a couple of you are watching! :D

Ordered an A4 piece of black perspex and a modelling knife along with the carbon fibre vinyl so gonna have a go at making the bay cover by the end of the week. If the vinyl is good quality and easy for me to work with, I will definitely consider using it in other places - probably on my PSU, Storm Scout top section and possibly on the front panel. I may even make a new front section from perspex too and ditch the mesh look.

EDIT: I made a mock up of a possible front panel idea.

Small update, but every step is a step closer!

Managed to fabricate a small perspex panel I bought from a popular auction site, and used the vinyl over the top. Gotta say I'm really impressed with this carbon fibre vinyl, for the price too, as it's a great finish and the ability to heat it up to reform it's shape or stretch it is pretty amazing in a simplistic kinda way! :D

I taped it on to see what it would look like, but I will either glue it on from behind, and drill some holes through it to screw the drives in place etc, or I my try making a small 'L' shaped bracket at the bottom to keep it in place although I'm not sure what would look better/neater?

Also since I loved the carbon fibre so much I also thought I would coat my Cyborg V1 to spruce it up a little. ;)

Would definitely recommend this stuff! Gonna order some more at some point, and will probably coat the floor of the case in it, as well as a smooth, clean custom perspex front panel.

That's all for now... STILL need to get that paint, got a couple of days before I go away to work again so really wanted to get it painted before then so it would be nice and solid to work with when I got home again.

PS excuse the pictures, the other halfs digital camera doesn't like the indoor lighting, and I couldn't be bothered to fiddle with it too much but will definitely get some better photos when this is eventually completed.

Really like the carbon fibre look, may investigate further and mod my old case rather than buying a new. Many thanks for the inspiration :)

I already posted this in the case section, but I'll post it here anyway.

I used the left over carbon fibre vinyl I had to coat the plastic side cover of my Thermaltake Frio CPU cooler, and covered my Coolermaster Silent Pro power supply that are in my current case.

I thought it looked really good! For a few quid it can totally transform the look of various components, and it's much cheaper and forgiving on mistakes than painting too.

Still need to order some more next week, but away working until next weekend so progress is on hold. It will slowly but surely get there in the end!

I also emailed Coolermaster and they're gonna send me some new plastic PCI clips, and 3 plastic rivets I had missing from the broken window. So will look as it should be on the inside... when I finally get round to finishing it that is. :)
