My new laptop's keyboard has a bit of flex/wobble when typing only at the left hand side.

On removing the keyboard I think I've identified the problem as a large hole in the backplate. Shown in picture below.

My idea was to add additional support by spanning the whole.

My question is what to use? Metal may cause an electrical short, wood could char/burn! Any suggestions?

Just use card. I've done this before, won't char/burn unless your laptop is severely overheating.

Thanks for the tip, though wouldn't cardboard be too flexible? Something like a wood splint may work but I doubt I have any around the house.

What about plastic or metal? Or should I stick to cardboard/wood?

Edit: Made a back plate out of cardboard, with spaces for fan, ribbon cable and screw mounts, however the problem still remains. Thicker cardboard would not fit.

Ideally I would make the same thing out of metal or plastic but that will be quite difficult and possible unsafe (electrical shorts etc..)

Any suggestions?
