Case noise

Hi guys trying to get my rig back to near silent when not gaming, I think it’s possible with the cpu and gpu heat sinks I have.

Since my hard drives don't kick out much heat to the case I’m going to start turning some fans off to see how much of a noise/temp difference it makes.

What are acceptable cpu and gpu (i5 & 7970) temps whilst ide?

Currently have all fan on the lowest rpm but I am still not happy with the noise, whilst gaming I don't mind with my headsets.

Have the following fans -

1x 200mm front intake
1x 120mm underneath intake

1x 200mm top exhaust
1x 200mm window exhaust
1x 120mm case fan exhaust

3x 92mm on gfx
2x 140mm on CPU

1x 140mm in power supply

11 in total, old rig only had 3!!

Also can you monitor the fan within the power supply?

I recently swapped from a Cooler master 750w that blew to a 650w that was about £45 and wonder if it's using a cheap fan.

Whilst the 650 power supply is a temporary solution can anyone recommend a silent power supply that would be ok for my rig?

Cheers
James

3x Cooler Master 200mm MEGA Flow FAN
2x silent X 120mm fans

Yeah gpu is at 18% speed and do wonder if i could turn the 2x cpu 140mm fans off all together when no gaming but guess i would need to monitor the temps.

The Phanteks should happily do the job passively at idle :)

I'm on Sandy, but my K2 goes up to around 40ish if I turn off the fans. The Phanteks has slightly better passive ability afaik.

Yeah my initial suggestion would have been to remove one of the fans so you're left with a push configuration. Or both if temperatures are stable.

Intel states 105c is the max temp before hurting the CPU but I would try and stay under 90c

Another solution could be to sound foam your case not sure how well this would work though, probably depends on the material and quality
