hi,
I got a query that needs help with. I am leaving the country soon and will have to bring my pc back.
Can someone give me some suggestion as to how to bring my pc back to my home country?
Its the base unit thats the problem, I don;t dare put it in my main luggage and it doesn;t fit on my carryon.
Can someone give some ideas?
SO far I only got, taking hte whole thing apart and buying a new case when I get back home..
any others?

Just pack it well, my mate came back from china with his as hold luggage.

It worked fine.

Just ensure everything is double secured. Remove any flimsily attached massive heatsinks.

is there anyway i can blag it for carryon instead of being checked in ?

if not, i would have to take out the heatsink and graphics card then...

damm there goes my luggage space

of course it depends on what case you have which you haven't told us, but they are pretty tight on what you can take on as hand luggage, think you're best taking off large heatsinks and stuff and then if you have the original box use that if not, then buy a nice one. or pay for it to be taken expensively by courier

Call DHL and ask for a quote - it's likely to be surprisingly cheap compared to the weight excess you'll pay taking it on a passenger flight.

if thats the case, i think i will take it apart for a carryon.... i mean the hard drives and dvd drives are allright in my check in.. the problem is the motherboard, and graphics card as well as the heat sink.. isn;t it ???

Have you been on a plane recently? The way security is these days carrying large amounts of electronic components in what passes for carry-on luggage is highly likely to get you banged-up in a holding cell until they realise that you are that stupid.

Just get a courier to do it, or sell your PC here, and buy a new one when you get home. Security is so tight these days that anyone with anything other than clothes in their luggage is a high-priority target for the security personnel. They've just about got used to laptops again - just!

Where are you flying to?

Depends on size you could take on as hand luggage but they do ask to see inside and they wouldn't let my mate take his amp :|

Contact the airline and ask them. You may have to pay a bit of excess baggage but just take it to the outsize baggage belt at the airport. Thats where all the unusual/fragile items go and the belt system is different.
