Found a TJ07 at a great price (£208) for the black window one :D and i was going to paint the inside black and the metal mesh blue and i was wondering which is the best paint for bare aluminium? ive got some black satan hammerite paint atm but is gloss or mat better?, also is there any good guides on how to sand primer and paint out there?

Thanks and sorry for my spelling :D

use matt spray paint.

sand using 600 or 400 grit and wipe over with a tack rag.

undercoat first (you will not need etch prime)

light coats, letting it dry in between

you can get everything you ned from Halfords, probably cost £15 all in.

Also you're going to need some masking tape and paper so as not to get it over the bits you don't want to spray.

Rule of thumb, for every minute spent spraying there is an hour of preparation.

So will it be alright using the hammeright paint because i tryed it out and it seemed quite thick?, whats etch prime, do i just use halfords white primer?

Also will i just u do 1 coat of enamel on top of the matt black?

I want the best look just like the murdermod cases ;) :D

Halfords Grey primer for black top coat (matt is best for inside cases.

Is the hammerite stuff paint on or spray on????

I've used hammerite products before for outside jobs and their main aim is protection rather than appearance.

And what you're looking for is appearance so I'd for out £5.99 on some Halfords car paint. Flows really nicely from the can and in this weather will go on nice and dry really quick.

Remember the quality of the finish is acheived in the preparation, not in the painting itself.

Ok thanks i practice on some metal before i go on to the case :D btw i have over a month to practice before i start buying the hardware :P

Find an old spanner or something similar and see if you can sand it down and work out how to paint it so you don't get drips and can support it to get even coverage.

Sounds a bit Mr Miagi, but if you can do that then you are at one with the rattle can Daniel san.

I think you may have to be of a "certain age" to get that.

I found the black matt enamel spray from halfraulds was slightly better for internals.
you can use an adhesion promoter in stead of a primer - (this will run very easily, if over used - mist coats only)
but can be oversprayed in an hour (unlike primer)

You can also use bbq spray paint from a diy superstore - has the added advantage of high emissivity
so it absorbes / radiates heat well (ideal for a Ally case) but not quite as good a finish as the acrylic.
simular to the slight bumpy ness of power coating)
it is however more scratch resistant

acrylic primer, top coats and lacquer for externals or 'shiney' colours
So three days minimum (one per paint) then 2-7 days for the lacquer to set

You get more runs if you spray panels that are vertical (lots of mist coats at 10minute intervals is the key.
But you get more over spray / masking damage when spaying onto a table / floor

I used 7 cans on my full tower internals - but I did use a metalic blue / lacquer finish.
would have been cheaper to get an air brush, but you live and learn.

oh and the Hycote Double Acrylic Car Paint Aerosol are better that the halfraulds cans
A 150ml has slightly less coverage than a 500ml can

and the final word of advice is all spray can will spit (fire a large blob) when nearly empty.
so get the 500ml cans of black and primer. or you need to do a lot of sanding.
