Hi all, just throwing some ideas together for a basic pc for a mate of mine.
He won't be gaming -just basic surfing/downloading & maybe some encoding. This pc is probably way more than what he needs but it also needs to last him a while.
Can anyone suggest a case/psu combo for these bits (max budget around £80):

Abit NF95 GeForce 6100 Micro ATX (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - Retail
GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5

Would these bits work ok together?

Also I shall be looking to overclock it a little so cpu cooler ideas would be appreciated. For example would a Freezer 64 Pro fit on this little mobo?

Thanks in advance :)

The Akasa Zen is a great budget case, its around £30, leaving you enough to buy a seperate PSU, better then getting one bundled with a case imo.

At the very least go for AM2 IMO:

OcUK 1GB (2x512MB) PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
£60.99 (£71.66)

Antec NSK4400 Mini Tower Case - 380W SmartPower PSU
£42.99 (£50.51)

Asus M2V-TVM VIA K8M890 Micro ATX (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
£34.99 (£41.11)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ 2.20GHz (Socket AM2) - OEM
£79.99 (£93.99)

Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2)
£13.99 (£16.44)

Sub Total : £232.95
Shipping : £9.95
Vat : £42.51
Total : £285.41

Even better if you can stretch to C2D.

The reason for 4200+ OEM is beacuse it's only a few £ more than the retail X2 3800+, plus you want an aftermarket cooler any way.

However this spec is the cheapest option, so if you want to start ocing you'll at least need to add extra £30 for better mobo.

Thanks Steve that looks like a nice little system. I think it will do him just fine at stock so that mobo will be ok I'm sure. Would love to get him a C2D but can't really justify it for what he will use it for.
