Hi,
Are all cases and PSU's of a standard design? Can I use a psu from one manufacturer in a case made by another manufacturer?

I was planning on..

Coolermaster Elite 335 Black - ATX Case
with..
Akasa Ultra Quiet 500W Paxpower Active PFC ATX2.2 PSU - Black Nickel

Yes and no.

Generally all standard-ATX PSUs will fit in standard-ATX cases but here are a few issues I can think of:
Cable length, some PSUs are placed at the bottom of a case which can give you trouble reaching some connectors (like the motherboard aux 4 pin block and top CD/DVD bays).

PSU length, a few PSUs are longer than usual but that is mostly on higher wattage designs, 700 and up. Not usually a problem cos a big PSU tends to be put in big case.

Compartment size, one or two cases (mostly smaller ones) use different PSUs than normal but that is rare on after-market cases.

Okay, thanks for your help Tetras, I'll bear that in mind. I dont think there's anything especially big about the case/psu I selected, so hopefully I'll be okay.

If not I'll bash it with a hammer...
