Hi all. My friend has bought my old Asus 1080ti strix off me but he can’t fit it in his case so he needs to get a new one. His current power supply is only 500 watts so he is needing a case and a power supply for further upgrades. His budget is around £100 and he saw the case and psu bundle linked below.

Will this be ok for now, he wants to upgrade to a Phanteks case in the future but this is just going to be a short term upgrade I think.

Thanks all

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £96.05 (includes delivery: £11.10)

I'm sure it will be okay. If he finds an extra £40 - and I get that this is a lot extra - there's a Lancool bundle with a far more reputable power supply that might prevent having to upgrade twice.

Cases can also be very, very cheap second hand. Might be worth looking on the Members Marketplace or an auction website or a social network marketplace to see if there are some for local collection.

That PSU is pretty much garbage and fraudulently model numbered.

Tech wise 80+ PSU would have been outdated low end already dozen years ago and only garbage factories make those anymore...
From guarateedly far lower quality parts than PSUs when that design was still just low end.

And by any this millennium standards it's at most 700W PSU with 670W in 12V.
Which you propably can't really get out with good voltage regulation because of outdated cheapo designs not liking cross loads.
And when one speck is grossly dishonest, there's little reason to trust the rest.

Also in PSU standards warranty will be "rear lights of salesman's cars disappearing behind corner of road" long.

Thanks for the replies. I had a feeling the Kolink power supply would be bad. Reminds me of the q-tec brand ones. The Lian Li case and psu looks nice. I’ll pass the message on to him. Thanks

Is 80+ Gold no good then? My super flower is 80+ gold

80%+ gold isn’t a mood measure of how good the actual psu is. It’s just a rating of efficiency.

You can have a massive turd of a PSU that’s gold rated. It’s less likely than say 80% bronze but hey, you can still blow your whole system up with it.

You should be eligible for free shipping as a long time member (enable that on your account if you haven't done so already). I'd say look at expanding(saving up) the budget and choosing one thing to go with initially, obviously for now that has to the case so maybe aim for £50 ish(good range of choices in that price bracket) on that (so you have more left to put toward the PSU), then watch the deals/offers and snag something up when it looks good and funds are available on the PSU end (superflower green 650W is on offer at £65 ath the moment). The GPU will hold fine for general browsing, watching vids etc, it's only gonna be a problem under heavy gaming load (play old low demand games would be fine to).

I wouldn't touch the Kolink stuff unless i was being paid to, and in your friend's situation i'd choose to space out the purchases if money is really tight. Get your pal to sling you the cash so you can at least use the free shipping so you don't have to factor it into the budget.. ;)

Here’s the Gigabyte PSU that has Japanese caps and is 80% gold but Gamers nexus proved will blow up if pushed even slightly
