A tower style case where the drive bays come out of the "side" rather than the "Front"?? (If you get my meaning)

(I am wanting a "Shallow" case with front drive access. Height/width is not a problem)

Come out the side without removing the side of the case?

No, I mean the drives are fitted sideways and open/close on the side of the case rather than the front.

Why not make a unit to hold one, maybe remount the original cage and then cut a hole in the side of the case? It's always fun to do some modding!

Your point is well made, Unfortunately I really do not have the time at present but if I cannot find anything "Off the shelf" I will have to consider it.

Lian Li make one, but it is HUGE.

Any chance of a link? I have had a look but cannot find it.

Cheers

Also these, but they are still quite deep as they are cube style cases.

Another one is this In-Win 904, the drive bay isnt to the side, but it is accessible from the side as you can see in the picture (second link)

Thinking about it I have seen plenty of smaller cases with no rom drive. Is it an option to buy an external and plug it in when needed?

Possible, but scruffy.

I am basically wanting to make a media PC but because of space limitations I need to put it on a shelf and I don't want it to stick out too much. At a pinch it wouldn't matter if the drive came out to the "side" but it would have been nice to have a "Front" loader (as it were)

How deep is the shelf?

Do you already have the components for the build?
