Ok time to replace my old XaserIII. Its getting a tad tight inside. I've a Tyan S2895, dual Opterons, and SLi'd Quadro 4500's.

Basically, I'm looking for a new box with a wee bit more room in it. better airflow, etc. Its got to take 6 HDD's, and 2 DVD-Writers. Budget of about £200. So far I've looked at :

CoolerMaster Stacker 830
Lian-Li PC V2100
Silverstone Temjin TJ07

all approx 200. Any suggestions of other boxes, or comments on them ?

Much appreciated folks.

The Lian-Li V2100+ is nice, huge amounts of room inside.

I've got 10 HDDs and 2 Opticals in mine and there's still a decent amount of room to move inside. The one thing I did notice early on was the amount of noise caused by the HDDs vibrating the case but investing in 10 yards of thin bungee cord to suspend the drives soon sorted that one.

The airflow's a bit odd though. There's a fan to cool the drives in the lower section but it doesn't seem to push enough air to cool the second stack of disks. The plus version gives you the option of running the airflow the wrong way through the top section too with the lower fan operating as an inlet and the top crossflow fan as the outlet. That might be useful with SLi cards.

The stacker is a good bet, more space that most people know what to do with and an insane amount of cooling, though you only get 2 fans by default.

Also the original stacker (810) cheaper, but still a good buy, probably better bet if the machine is in use a lot due to the door on the new one.

Lian Li V2100+ was built for the sort of rig your planning on putting in it, would be an excellent choice.

Coolermaster Stacker 830 is built rubbish, never seen one with good side panels, or heard of one for that matter! Reviewers give it good ratings but none of them pick up on the issues everyone else seems to find!

TJ07, would be a little less on the low noise side than the Lian Li as the Silverstone needs high CFM to cool, but would also be a excellent choice.

Just don't get the stacker 830 and you will be happy with your purchase. :)

Can't really comment on the 830, having never had a play with one, however the 810 was well built (at least in personnel experiance)

Yeh the older stackers are great, just the 830 has so many issues!

The new stacker should not have the same name really, people have purchased it on the reputation of the older cases and been very dissapointed; its along the lines of buying a TJ07 and a Asus Vento showing up, that bad!

Thanks for the advice guys. Lian-Li sounds good, extra room is exactly what I'm looking for. Your right about the Coolermaster 830 .... reviews seem to rave about it, but nobody seems to be sticking their hand in the air and saying its fantastic.

Cheers again.

Got my Lian-Li 2100 (Black) this morning. A fun day of transferring everything across awaits. Now to try and get a window side-panel for it....

Thanks for the advice.

Come on people, how many people does it take to ask for pics?

The answer is 4!

Just let the guy get them in his own time. :p

/come on where are they then!
