I am everywhere...
With the advent of traffic cameras coming to every major city by next year i.e cameras that monitor drivers who ignore basic road sign - No left or right turn, no entry etc. This got me thinking, supposing am using a navigation system and it tells me to turn right or left where am not suppose to or enter a zone i shouldnt have (unknowingly off course).

Fast forward two weeks later and i get a fixed penalty noticed, can i -
1 - Make a claim i was directed by the navigation system and should not be liable for payment.

2- Argue with the navigation sofware maker (e.g Tomtom) to pay the fine as i was given a wrong direction so to speak.

As most if not all navigation equipment says when you use it "the navigation software is no replacement for driver awareness" (or similar disclaimer), and as such the manufacturers would not be liable for your own dumb-ass mistakes.

Most navigation, will just tell you things along the lines of "dont operate while driving"......the one's i have seen Garmin and Tomtom iirc dont say things the way you put it.

It wont be a dumb ass if you are using a navi in an area you havent been to before. No matter how good or aware you are, mistakes can be easily made while driving.

frankly you're crazy if you think there's any kind of legal defence there, it's a navigation aid, the same as a map is, it's not legally responsible for your lack of self awareness

Sat nav systems are a navigation aid, that is, something to help you reach your destination more easily, but are not intended to act as a total replacement for common sense and observation of road signs when driving! Mistakes can easily be made, sure, but these are purely the responsibility of the person behind the wheel.

"Please turn left"...
But that would take me off the edge of the cliff...
(shrug) well ok then....

Man, i was hoping to ignite some kind of debate, but so far all views are the same...Oh well back to the drawing board. :(
