Case suggestion - Dust?

I'm trying to pick a case for my build soon.
Dust has always been a huge problem in my flat and I am wondering if there's any advice as to weather I should pick a certain case or change the setup of the new case I buy to deter dust from collecting as much as possible.

Any advice most welcome, at the moment I have a Gigabyte Poseidon, not the most practical of cases but at the time it didn't matter, but due an upgrade so thought the case could be changed too!

Budget limit would be around £100, preferably keeping the form factor to around mid-size but all suggestions considered :)

Thanks in advance

1. Vacuum clean thoroughly at least once a week ;)
2. Corsair Vengeance C70? It has removable/washable filters

Fractal Design Define R4? Fan holes are covered with silencing foam, which means it is quieter and no dust will fall in. Also has a removable dust filter at the bottom.

The best way to keep dust out of your PC is to maintain positive pressure in your case and have all intakes filtered. While it's certainly possible to configure positive pressure for any case, I'd still recommend getting cases that are designed for positive pressure in the first place. If you haven't read it, please check out our article on positive pressure:

I'm not overly keen on the aesthetics of Silverstone cases, but thanks for the link. That was a very useful read and actually really interesting, I am keen to learn more.

With so many cases to choose from it's difficult to pick just one but with understanding a bit more about airflow it should become a little easier

Assuming you can make any case have positive pressure, within reason. Is there a minimum number of fans - intake/outake needed? or a way of knowing that you can achieve this before a case is purchased?

I have had many cases over the years but nothing has kept out dust like the raven 3 I currently have it literally pretty much catches 99% of the dust on the bottom fan filters. The raven 3 with the grey stripes looks pretty decent in the flesh the pics don't do the case justice and my non reference triple fanned 6970 works fine in it very low temps. There just isn't a better case for air cooling out there for £100 ish.

You'll find that cases with large mesh panels and lots of vents are hard to create +ve pressure in, and dust will get drawn in through some of the vents. This is what I've found with my NZXT Phantom (full tower). I have 3 intakes and 2 exhausts, but I think I'd need at least 2 more intakes in the main section of the case to get anywhere near +ve pressure. And that's a lot of filters to clean!

Silverstone FT-02 is amazing at keeping out dust. It's the negative pressure system.

The filters catch huge amounts and can be cleaned every couple of months.

It's pricey though (but a stunning case).

I must say that my Fractal Define Mini is pretty tidy inside, very very little dust (no bunnies!) just a slight layer on components, nothing a deep breath won't fix. The front fan filters are easy to remove\clean too, every few months I pop them out and just give them a quick once over with the vacuum and pop them back in.

Have you got a temp probe in there? How does it fair?

I've taken a fancy to the Coolermaster CM690 II White - Windowed and budled with a Modular 600W Silent Pro Gold PSU for £145

Dust filters, lots of cooling options to make the pressure right and it's white, sexy!

I had a case that had no dust filters for years & dust was not a problem, case placemen & the surface you have it on will have a major factor !

Any case that has dust filters will help but at a cost to air pressure within your rig.

For me, don't leave it on carpet. I used a bathroom tile that was bigger than the feet of the case, this helped not suck up all the bits of skin & carpet rubbish. Clean your case, fans, rad/HS & hardware every year to prevent dust build up.

I'm quite finicky when it comes to cleaning my computer & keeping a clean rig means a healthy PC.

Just my two penneth worth...

Keep the case up high on a desk or something, it will just collect dust sitting on the floor and clean it out regularly, vacuum it or use compressed air or whatever
