I haven't found this as a consolidated thread, so by all means point me at something if I've missed it.

I'm toying with the idea of moving my PC over to a media role, since I'm spending less and less time gaming, and more and more time watching films. Since this would sit next to my flatscreen TV, aesthetics are key to me.

Requirements:

1) Tower or desktop, but must take full height PCI-E cards
2) Look nice (minimalist/brushed metal/etc)
3) 1 optical slot (will fit a blu-ray)
4) Preferably something that doesn't make me cry in frustration if I have to open it up, like some SFF cases I've dealt with in the past

Thanks for your thoughts!

Antec Fusion? Zalman HD160+, Lian li PC-C32, PC-37, Silverstone LC16, LC13-E, LC17, GD01, LC10

Thats a mix of ATX and m-ATX, but all support full height PCI, brushed metal, atleast 1 optical, desktop/htpc and for the most part look good.

Currently full ATX board, but I would be willing to upgrade/build fresh in order to get this machine up and running, so mATX is possible.

Thanks for the suggestions Guardsmon, I'll browse those properly later.

As for budget, as ever, the cheaper the better, but I'd like to stay the shy side of £100 really - I can't help feel that a lot of the HTPC cases that I've seen are very overpriced for what they are.

Too true. From the ones I've posted you'll probably find that the Silverstones would be your best bet with the exception of the LC16.

Just bought myself an Antec Micro Fusion Remote. It has a non-standard PSU and only takes low profile cards, but it's going to be a low-power HTPC, so that isn't a problem.

Bargain at £69.99 imo.

Will do, just trying to figure out which CPU+mobo combo I want for low power blu-ray playback. I have made a thread on it, so any suggestions welcome!

I'll get some build pics up when it all comes together.

chieftec hace some nice new 'hifi' cases available in matx and atx, low profile or normal

makes a differnce form the usual antec and silverstone, good reviews as well.

Chieftec HT-01 -02 or 03 black or silver or HM-012 -02 or -03

The cases have to be below a certain height otherwise I tend to find it a bit annoying, have an Antec Fusion, served me well but I might be tempted to replace it with the new Silverstone GD04! Shame both these cases only support mATX but guess there's always going to have to be a compromise somewhere?

Well all the best HTPC mainboards are MATX so that shouldn't be a problem. I'm yet to sort a CPU and mobo for my micro fusion, but I have the case and it's the perfect size for an AV rack or similar, looks totally in place and very swish! It is quite deep though, but the space must be made up somewhere.

This is what I finally took the plunge for about 6 months ago. Fantastic case, clean and well built/thought out. The price made me a very sad puppy but it was the same price as similar cases but it's a brushed aluminium lian li so...

Well thought out excelent case however.
