Case Temps

Hi guys.

My case temp is up in the 40s when the room temp is 20.. that shows a serious lack of airflow through the thing right?

Yes, and no. It might show a serious lack of airflow over the place where the temperature sensor is or it could just show that your temperature sensor is reading nonsense values.

You can prove this by taking the side panel off the PC. If the temperature drops then you need to look at the airflow. If it doesn't drop then the temperature sensor is dodgy. Dodgy temperature readings are surprisingly common.

Please also bear in mind that loads of fans do not equal good cooling performance. An Akasa Eclipse with 2 120mm fans will keep almost any system cool whereas loads of other cases are stuffed full of fans and can't cool for toffee.

I was planning on investing in a T-Balancer bigNG for the precise reason of getting more acurate temps, as well as the fan control aspest of it. I'll experiment a bit more with my case, the intake filter was clogged heavly, so I've cleared that out now, will let it settle down, then try with the side off.

Looks like the sensor is well out of whack. took the side off and place my weather station indoor therm inside, it's reading a good 10°C lower than my 'ambient' sensor.. so it's either damn aweful, or placed way to close to the heat centres to report the actual data I would want from it.. does make me doubt the other sensors now though, might have to go for that investment!
